This can't be serious.
I was sure Muse was going to be released on the week of the 3rd anniversary of Hysteria being released- which falls on the 20th of May.
*Titles may not be 100% accurate, I rarely play them.
Licensing hell aside, you'd think the licensing companies would want to make money for nothing. They have to do nothing but say "Okay, sure... we want x amount of money." That's it! (well, maybe sign something)
I mean, yes. Muse. They rock. No argument here. HMX is not ignorant to this. The fact they're poking fun at the demand for the band is a sign they know it's demanded. Ignoring the demand, though? Ignoring the accolades and the acclaim and the sales and the general ubiquity? No. Those are all reasons for the label to play hardball, though.
You wonder if HMX even cares this thread exists. S***, what if Warner knows? Let's visit this hypothetical for a tick. The fact it keeps getting posted in regularly probably means every time HMX brings up our beloved trio's RB potential, Warner has them by the short-'n'-curlies. Would Muse DLC sell well? I know I'd get some MS points in my account as soon as I wiped the drool wrought on by the prospect of Muse with pro keys off of my chin. But would it sell well enough to cover the opportunistic price gouge of a record label that just might be—and gawsh, I hate to play to stereotypes here—a mite bit greedy?
Meanwhile, this thread is 13K+ posts, rage and hope both seeming to know no bounds, to the point where it's such a big deal where if there was a three-pack (or Godforbid, a single) of Muse released next week, I guaranf***ingtee at least one post to the tune of "Time Is Running Out? Uprising?! Ugh. Could you get any more mainstream? Way to turn your noses up at the genius that went into the songwriting of such songs like [yada], [yada] and [yada], HMX. This changes nothing!"
I know the jokes seem like a sign of disrespect, but the licensing issues are business and it's just not good business to be turning around after every negotiation communication and tell fans exactly what went down. ("So, they told us $X for Singer Y, $Z if we include his crappy new single they're trying to promote, and that was their final offer. We think they're bluffing, they usually are.") So either get angry at the fact they're cracking wise about you guys, or read between the lines to find a piece of communication they haven't shared regarding any other band's DLC potential: "It's not happening right now, but we know you want it and aren't likely to forget anytime soon. But in the meantime, take a deep breath and enjoy any other DLC that comes through the pipes that's up your alley." It is just a game after all. Yaknow, for fun!
I could not imagine why a label would NOT want to make money. I just looked up the video for Hysteria and I had one of those... "Oh, THAT song!" moments myself. It very well could be that the licensing fees would be a bit too high for Harmonix to afford at this time, or that Activision was able to get Muse exclusively for the time being; no one knows for sure but the parties in negotiations for content. I would pick up Knights of Cydonia if it were released (I don't know any other Muse songs, but they seem like a band that could go the way of Nightwish and grow on me.)
plz harmonix MUSE DLC all buy all
Hey don't worry guys, I'm sure they have 12 more Bob Marley songs or another Billy Joel pack ready to go for May. Besides, it's only been 3 years since the one Muse track we got was released. Gotta space out the releases you know?
