But I can say that we invaded the Rose Bowl parade today and infected everyone with Pac-Man Fever: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LWJVdkj4TxU

I am curious, Mr. TheOzone, how many different licenses did you have to acquire for Pac-Man Fever?
While I'm disappointed that these will be the rerecords Buckner & Garcia did back in 1999, I certainly understand the reasoning for it.
I definitely plan to pick up the title track, and probably "Froggy's Lament," but some of the songs haven't aged well for me (I'm looking at you "Ode to a Centipede"). (Though, knowing me, I'll just pick up the whole album.)
A quick question for you. Not to sound impatient or anything, but I was under the impression that Rock Band Network 2.0 was supposed to be rolled out at the beginning of the year, when they added keys/vocal harmony support to RBN songs. I'm assuming at this point, "I'm Blue" should be nearing its release. Can you offer any details as to where it is in peer revue, and how close it might be towards being released? Right now I've got points on my hard drive saved up specifically for that song. And a few others. <3
Let's just say the songs have a LOT of licenses behind them. But luckily, Buckner & Garcia took care of most of it previously. It's been pretty smooth sailing and I'm constantly on the phone with them making sure we got all the licensing and distributing under control. They're also great guys to talk to and are legit excited about this, always willing to help out any way they can.
The reason for the 1999 versions is easy. First, the reason they even exist. The label of the 80's versions didn't grant the band access to the masters for the 99 re-release, so they were forced to re-record. Now they fully control these recordings. And second, the recordings are a higher quality as they have better studio tech behind them. It makes working with the tracks easy.
RBN2 isn't out yet on our end, nor yours obviously. We've tested out the basic instruments already, so when it comes time we just need the venue and keys tested (there's no harmonies in the song). So it should move relatively quickly when the new tools are out and will likely be out ahead of the Pac-Man stuff.
