A beta release Xbox update did break compatibility with various Rock Band peripherals (and probably those for other games), but I don't think any normal release updates have this problem.

You can try a different USB port on your console, but it sounds like the ebay guy sold you a defective adapter. I figure I should tell you though that Amazon has the Xbox MPA on sale for $15 right now (http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Rock-...di+pro+adapter). I bought another MPA the other day, which will make it my third one.

I contacted the Mad Catz support, but I doubt they'll be able to help.

Since you have the adapter, can you use it to navigate through menus without any instrument connected or does it only connect when an instrument is connected?

I doubt that you can use it without any instrument connected, unless the game detects it as a controller, therefore, vocals.

Yes, it's a fully fledged Xbox controller. Using nothing but it, I can boot the console up, launch the game, go into Rock Band's store and buy songs. If the one you got used can't do that, it's broken.

Thank you, that was what I wanted to know. I guess it's broken then.

I have never heard of such things. So far to my knowledge every e-drum works.
