The Padres have also never had a player hit for the cycle. Only the Marlins also fall into that category. The two feats are often compared directly, since they occur roughly as frequently as one another (293 cycles in MLB history, Santana's no-hitter makes 275 of those).

But, all those teams have been to a World Series :(

Congrats to Johan and congrats to all of those Mets fans that now can cross out "Need to see a Met pitch a No-Hitter" from their bucket lists.

    Interesting stats.

And chances are Florida at the very least will make another World Series between now and 2024 (when the M's get to a season finishing at .500; at least at the rate they've been rebuilding thus far)

What really makes the no-hitter impressive is that Johan threw it against one of the best offensive teams in the league.
Unfortunately there will be talk about the contraversial call on a ball hit down the line, but it will go down in the record books as a no-hitter and a very impresive performance by Johan Santana. Also the 3rd no-hitter of the season.

Matches the number from last year, but there were six in 2010, so a ways to go to match that.

They seem to be becoming slightly more frequent (fewer batters on roids?)

    2012 - 3 so far
    2011 - 3
    2010 - 6
    2009 - 2
    2008 - 2
    2007 - 3
    2006 - 1
    2005 - none
    2004 - 1
    2003 - 2
    2002 - 1
    2001 - 3
    2000 - none

It probably has a lot to do with that I'd say.

    Neat :)

After 52 games of limited production in the 3-hole, the Mariners move Ichiro back to the leadoff spot...and he hits two home runs.

Thanks, the boys are pretty stoked.

Although I don't follow the Ms as much as I should I have been following Ichiro's BA and production numbers and I still don't understand the 3 hole move.

Cool news. Maybe he can hit in the 3 hole for the Mariners once his baseball team is done with their playoff run.

Also cool news. Almost flashes of Mike Cameron's 4 HR game from a decade ago, only it was our lead off guy who usually doesn't hit HR's. Plus the M's finally were able to get a win over the White Sox, and did it by scoring in double digits for the 3rd time in the past 4 games. Stoked by this good play from the Mariners.
