As far as the trade breakdown is concerned, this is a win for the Yankees and a win for Ichiro. Obviously this is a bad trade for the Mariners in that they got 2 single A to AA pitchers (something they really don't need) as opposed to single A to AA hitters (who might bat better than Olivo, Ryan, and Smoak have this season). The fact that the Mariners paid the Yankees money on top of this trade makes it really bad on their end.

Well, look on the bright side: you're not a Marlins fan. The return on Hanley Ramirez and Randy Choate (a decent reliever this season) was pathetic. Ramirez's last year and a half have been decidedly mediocre, but he still has more upside as a 28-year old than either Eovaldi (who I can't see being better than a decent third man in a rotation) or Scott McGough.

There has to be a certain level of gallows humor inherent in being a Marlins fan... it's like being an Indians fan, except the Marlins win something every now and again.

Hell, not that I'm a Marlins fan, but gallows humor is inherent in every single sports season for me. I'd go crazy if I didn't find bleakness amusing.

I'm just a little surprised the Marlins firesale is happening now and not after the team has been successful for a year as in the past.

The Marlins have won 2 World Series (including one since the last time the M's made the playoffs) so any bad moves and disfunction in that organization I can laugh at.

True. The Marlins were fleeced in that trade. Somebody must have put ruffies in the Marlins GM's coffee before filling out the paper work.

Regarding the Hanley Ramirez trade keep in mind the Dodgers are paying for the rest of his contract so that might have something to do with what the Marlins got in return.

Dunno how many Mets fans are around here, but... we finally won one! Rejoice! 2-11 since the ASB!

...I'll go back to being quiet now.

    Define "big" names.

    Just to name a few:
Angels got Zach Greinke from the Brewers
Dodgers got Hanley Ramirez from the Marlins
Tigers got Anibal Sanchez and Omar Infante from the Marlins
Pirates got Wandy Rodriguez from the Astros
White Sox got Fransisco Liriano from the Twins
Yankees got Ichiro from the Mariners

I think that's pretty much all of the notable trades so far.
