Now I'm pretty sure you're not getting what I'm saying. Yes, you can redistribute right now. So can I. How much more weight does that give you or me? Zero. Some of our artists go down, some go up. A hypothetical someone who had 1 point for KoRn because they wanted Freak on a Leash and 1 for Edgar Winter because they wanted Frankenstein can also redistribute, and in all likelihood will do so by first removing KoRn and Winter from their list, freeing up 2 points. How much more weight does that give them? Now they effectively have 2 free unassigned points to spend on other bands as they wish, without HMX giving them anything extra. Their votes already effectively count about 1.2x yours or mine. This hypothetical person is unlikely to exist. Yes, even if they do the difference isn't much. But the fact remains that without being awarded extra points directly their vote now matters more than yours or mine simply because they can either now put their 11th and 12th favorite band on the list or throw more weight behind their favorite band without losing anything, and we cannot.

I'd appreciate links to where you're getting your 80 people and your data on how many Dashboard App users there are. Your other two reference numbers (DLC buyers and "people") are meaningless because how much App votes count is impacted by neither. What a vote is worth is simply a function of total points dispersed over number of Dashboard App users. Even then number of App users doesn't matter much. All that matters, and should be simple enough to be understood, is that the opinion of someone with 20 points on the App counts for twice as much as the opinion of someone with 10.

But again you're looking at the wrong numbers. Total points dispersed matters little, and number of artists matters not at all. What matters is that now people who are big enough fans of KoRn to list them as one of their top ten favorite bands get to have their opinions count 1.5x as much as mine. Soon, if 5 points are given out when Bush comes out, people who really like KoRn and Bush will have their opinions count 2x as much as mine. Since I don't care for either band at all that really does kind of bother me.

The system was least weighted when it launched. One person gets ten points. Any reward of points unevenly distributed past that point skews the system in favor of some people. I'm not sure how to make the point any clearer than that.

If HMX is going to use App data to drive DLC release preferences, then People wanting something, while not equal to, at least becomes more correlated to people getting something. So those with more votes are more likely to be heard, which makes it more likely (by some amount, however small) that they will get what they want.

As far as who should care? Here's a list of bands who we know are coming or have had points rewarded for already: Edgar Winter, KoRn, CCR, Huey Lewis, Bush. At this point I'd say if you can't stand any of these bands, and don't like bands like those bands, you should be questioning how HMX is rewarding points because soon a group of people who like those bands is going to have more say in upcoming DLC than you do. Will it be a large say? Of course not. If you hate all those bands do you want a group their fans to have ANY more say in upcoming DLC than you do? I don't think so.

Want to know who should really care? There are people on this forum every week who come in and say "HMX hasn't released anything good in three months and where's my <random band I like>?". The person who should care is whoever is going to be that guy three months from last week, because a bunch of fans of a bunch of bands he hates will now have votes that count more than his. I don't think I'm that guy, but I do think as a prog-fan that given the amount of prog we got last year, and the fact that we just got a double whammy of Rush, that I'll be sitting here in three months with my ten points wondering why I bother when the fans of music I actively dislike like KoRn and Bush now have more say than I do.

Now that I reread that last paragraph, the REAL problem is that this reward system creates a positive feedback loop. Suppose in the next three months HMX releases lots of classic rock and late 90's hard rock (a stab based on the 5 bands we know). As those bands get released, points will be given to their fans, who probably tend to like those genres. Those points will probably go into more votes for bands in those genres. Fans of other genres get no points. At the end of three months it looks from HMX point of view like people want classic rock and 90's hard rock EVEN MORE than they did before all that stuff was released. WOW! They better sign and release EVEN MORE! Rinse and repeat...

Suggestion: HMX gives everyone on the app 5 points to spend on voting for bands they HATE. If a band on your hate list is released as DLC, THEN you get more points for the like list. If a band on your like list gets released.. well, that should be reward enough in itself, really.

Ignoring the fact that they've had months of DLC in some stage of planning before they introduced the app, those five bands alone cover a lot of ground in terms of genres (classic rock, nü-metal, southern rock, pop-rock, alternative) and decades (60s-00s).

Your opinion matters INFINITELY more than people that don't use the App. Maybe you should just stop using it and do your part to level the playing field.

There are some people that suggest songs a lot through Request a Song. Their opinions are more weighted than mine through that outlet.

But somehow, I've fought through the hardships, and turns out, not everything requested gets released, and not everything released gets requested. Whoops.
