It's pretty much geared toward social or free-to-play games. (That being said, I could imagine an ad remover being pretty boilerplate DLC for such a title...)

Makes perfect sense to me... then again, I've actually put a bit of thought into these sorts of things.

Hopefully these'll be the only types of games with full-blown ads.

There was advertising in the later iterations of the Guitar Hero franchise, but at least those didn't interrupt the game experience.

It's not likely you'd see immersion-breaking ads in full-scale retail titles - it makes no sense to irritate customers who paid full MSRP for your game. (If anything, you want to be really nice to the people who pay at the high end if you're a publisher, as you want them to continue paying at that price point for your titles.)

    DRM says what.

    I'd argue two counter-factuals.

    1) The average consumer isn't as negatively affected by DRM as the typical press portrayal makes them out to be.

    2) PC gamers are considered an inherently less-profitable market, therefore publishers have greater incentives to steer them over to console SKUs.

I think that is different. The in-game advertising actually adds to realism - you would expect to see real products being used and advertising in the venues (this goes for sports games too).

Racing games were some of the first real uses of in-game advertising, mostly because it looks weird to be driving on some of these F1 and NASCAR tracks and not see ads...
