Indeed, he's a talented VA. He was actually the voice of Abbas in the original AC, and I have no idea why they didn't let him reprise the role for Revelations. It has to be cheaper to have one VA instead of two, doesn't it? Even if one is Nolan North. Also the crap turrets and corrupt cores in Portal 2 were him, which I never would have guessed without looking it up.

But despite that, devs do tend to ask for his "Drake" voice over and over. Kind of a shame, but I'm sure it's a (very comfortable) living.

As in, an animated movie (probably involving adorable, semi-life-like animals) and I realize the damn voice is the Home Improvement guy, or Gilbert Godfried, or Betty White.

It's all I can focus on, and I picture their faces.

Although, in all fairness, Gilbert is annoying in any form and Betty White kind of kicks arse.

How do you think I felt watching The Lorax and all I could hear was Zack Effron, Taylor Swift and Danni DeVito?

Wow, that kind of craps my point, but I'm happier for having learned it. (Probably should have skimmed the list I linked :p).

As for Nolan as Abbas, Ubisoft replaced Altair's super generic voice as well for Revelations, so maybe they were going for a more authentic voice cast. And who knows, maybe Nolan North costs more than another lesser known VA that can do a better middle-eastern accent?

What's even weirder is only one of those was irrelevant by the time the film became released.

You mean North's rate for doing two (reasonably) substantial characters may have outweighed that of his rate for one + lesser-known VA? I suppose that's possible. Abbas only had like 3 lines in the original AC.
