The new Wii U comes out on Sunday...I've written to Nintendo and to Harmonix and no one seems to know if any of the Wii Rock Band Games or instruments will work with the new Wii U hardware. Does anyone out there in the Rock Band players world know yet? Someone has to have tested these things...

If they don't know, then officially no one does.

I was reading about the new Wii U and the article claimed that old Wii title will be backward compatible.
If the includes Rock Band and the controllers, I don't know.
I thought about maybe getting a Wii U but its a bit pricey and all I play is Rock Band 2 & 3 Some Beatles Rock band and a touch of GHWT on rare occasion.

I don't see why the GH instruments wouldn't work, they use the wiimote, they are mapped as a classic controller. If the Wii U allows Wii updates for the RB instruments it should work, the huge question about the Wii U is will it use the DLC you're bought on the Wii? Seeing how the console sees if you bought a song or not, most likely no.

I would be interested in DLC transfer function. It is said at the official website that the Wii game and downloaded data can be transferred from Wii to Wii U. If all the rockband controller can be used on the Wii U, then Transfer to Wii U maybe is the only way to salvage my DLC before my old Wii kick the bucket. However, no specific information about rock band DLC. It is reported that the game data transfer function will not be available at release but at later date as a system update...

a fellow RB3 player said that Rock Band 3 works with the Wii-U but their is no online support for it yet

I have no trouble believing that the game works on Wii-U. But like the NGC on the wii, I doubt that online play will work on Wii-U with any wii games.

What if I'm playing rb3 on an old wii, and my friend is playing rb3 on a wii u.
Will we be able to invite/join/play together online?

And also, as far as I know, someone else mentionned that online play on Wii U doesn't work, Right above my post.

Players on Wii will be able to play with players on the Wii-U, online play isn't enabled yet on the Wii-U their working on it.

Really? cross-console compatibility for online play? This is a first, and amazing at the same time. The only other thing I've seen like this is FFXI, and it's an MMO. Do you have a source? I'd like to see that with my own eyes. lol
