While very different, if you can handle harsher stuff, there's a lot of killer bands labeled "mathcore"

I'm aware that Wikipedia is a thing that exists, thanks. I was looking for a personal explanation from a devotee, one that might be a little less long-winded and clinical, and make a little more sense.

Math rock tends to be, though not always, more dissonant than standard prog rock, as well.
