I'll add it to my starter list. That song in particular has been popping into mind a lot, lately, when things are dark and all too silent. It really has that effect, haha.

Ugh, I hate that the big bands come to Detroit and Auburn Hills, whereas the 'indie' bands go to Grand Rapids. **** you all.

Indie bands seem to love Royal Oak, though.

RO: They Threw Us All in a Trench and Stuck a Monument on Top is pretty awesome the first time through.

yeah, it's pretty good but "they were wrong, so we drowned" is my favorite... the new stuff just doesn't do much for me.

i actually got a metalhead i used to work with into that album (and lightning bolt, of all things).

I've heard a lot of comparisons between their early material (primarily TWWSWD) and Lightning Bolt. The only other album I've heard of theirs is Sisterworld, which disappointed me at the time, but anything could happen, I imagine. I turned around my opinion of Titus Andronicus (whether HoR approves is another discussion altogether :p) so why not Liars?

EDIT: Elaborating on Lightning Bolt, I watched their performance at Pitchfork Music Festival, and it completely kicked my ass from a thousand miles away, so I downloaded their discog and just couldn't get the same feeling from their first two albums, so I gave up. Did I stop before it gets good or am I just expecting too much thinking something going into my ears while I'm doing other things is going to give the same rush as watching their drummer do the musical equivalent of shooting fire out of his eyes while I hear it?

it doesn't really sound like lightning bolt, but i guess both were noisy rock bands that were simultaneously getting more popular than anyone expected at the time

the album basically bridges their previous post-punk stuff on downers so it sounds more like a sludge band at times.
i was really disappointed with all three of the following albums, but at least they still make cool music videos. haha
