I did the long-distance relationship a lot through high school.

    ***Hated it!***

I think long-distance relationships are even more likely to be screwed up if you never met the girl in person before hooking up. That way there's little chance of knowing that we can truly connect before I take a risk.

Maybe if she wasn't on the other side of the country, I'd give it more thought. But it's still too early to think about that, anyway. Besides, I still have a couple of you guys and some other people in CA to help me if I want to try this out.

Yeah, no; I've met plenty of examples where this rule is hogwash.

Well, I've only known of one example of a couple meeting online, and it ended pretty badly- the girl dumped him for a dude that's into bestiality while the guy was in a suicidal phase for about 2 years after and still isn't entirely over it.

I'm sure there are other examples against that, but that'll always come to mind.

There is a negative stigma around long distance relationships and it just irritates me; it's no different than short distance relationships. I'm sick of it and I really do hate how the public and people in general generalize it.

Heck, two of my closest friends from a message board were in a long distance relationship for like 3-4 years before the dude moved from england to chicago. Why do we have to associate a negative stigma on something that is no different than other relationships?

I think that any aversion I have to long-distance relationships is more of a reflection of my character than a judgment on long-distance relationships. I think they can work so long as the people involved are willing to commit (just like any relationship).
