Yeah... I ended up just getting a Dell laptop for my digital media work, mostly because I work with video.
I know this makes no sense, but allow me to explain.
I've never really done much with Final Cut Pro - I use Premiere, meaning that the platforms are relatively irrelevant to me. When I got my laptop two years ago, I could either pay just over $1500 for my 2.8GHz Core 2 Duo 15" Dell, or pay $2650 for a similarly specced 15" MBP. Despite being over 70% more expensive, the MBP lacked three things that were reasonably important to me - a larger hard drive (there wasn't a 500GB hard drive option at the time), a 1080p LED display (still not an option for a Macbook unless you hook it up to a Cinema Display), and a Blu-Ray burner (Apple still doesn't support BD-ROM, period, which is an asinine move for a company that supposedly caters to the video market).
Apple doesn't seem to support much they don't make.
