RO: For whatever reason I don't believe it's popular among Clash fans, but Rock the Casbah is ridiculously catchy, especially the piano part.
"Rock the Casbah" is on the same tier as "We're an American Band", "Smoke on the Water", "Don't Fear the Reaper" or "We're Not Gonna Take It." Good iconic, radio-friendly song that gotten too much airplay over the past 3-4 decades compared to the rest of the band's deep and rich discography.
I don't mind "Casbah" once in a while.
There are plenty of songs like "Rock the Casbah": songs that came to define a band even though the style of that particular song is very different than what the rest of the band's sound is like.
Fei mentions quite a few, but others include "Carry on Wayward Son" by Kansas, "Owner of a Lonely Heart" by Yes, and probably some others I can't remember right now.
RO: How hilarious would it be to get The Gun Club into Rock Band - a tune like "Carry Home," maybe? Vocals would have to be charted off key, and never the same way twice...
Don't get me wrong, I love me some Gun Club, but that boy had a wandering sense of pitch...
The Gun Club would be pretty cool to have in the game, "Preaching the Blues" made the 2nd punk setlist.
Although in the case of Yes, they did have a few albums that were in that same vein... they just happen to typically be the least-regarded in their discography.
But yeah, Kansas is an interesting example, especially since most of their output is pretty similar to early Yes...
i never liked the foo fighters, and i don't respect grohl
except We're an American Band pisses me off
owner of a lonely heart is the worst song ever done by Yes, it makes my ears bleed, and not in a cool way
Wow Grandaddy is a great band. I'm not sure how I just heard of them this week....
