If we counted out hipster black metal bands then the USA would turn blue.

Probably need to almost break out the US by state, or at least by general region... if you did that you'd turn the Pacific Northwest blue, but you'd likely still have quite a bit of metal to speak of in the southwest and southeast...

Considering that Agalloch, Wolves In The Throne Room, Sunn O))), Metal Church, Sanctuary, and Nevermore all hail from the Pacific Northwest, I would think that region would at least be in the Greenish hue like Brazil and Russia are. If one lumps in Queensryche or the Grunge bands that sound more metal than punk in the Metal list then it would have the hue of the baby green in the diaper color that Argentina and Lithuania have.

The blue would be in some of the states that are more producers of country music (Oklahoma, Tennessee, Alabama) as well as some of the sparsely populated states (North Dakota, Wyoming, Alaska).

New York, New Jersey, and California would be in at least a dark reddish orange hue like Portugal and Germany thanks to the 80's thrash metal scene, as would Florida thanks to the late 80's/early 90's Death Metal scene.
