There's been academic/classical/industrial artists much before The Beastie Boys that thoroughly work with sampling into their music that there were practically music genres based around it.

Got sucked into that link. Somehow found Fear Factory, Sisters Of Mercy, and White Zombie in there (didn't think that would happen).
When I say sampling in this case I, of course, don't include found sounds. I'm strictly talking song-sampling.
Also, that website is great fun, but the Coldwave description - as well as the artists he recc'ed - are totally inaccurate. Plus, including the Silicon Teens as French Pop?
