Looper:
Awesome time-travel flick that doesn't bog you down with technical bullsh*t. Overall, great sci-fi action. Stellar performances by Gordon-Levitt, Willis, and of course, Paul Dano.
Lots of action and plenty of violence. Will probably be seeing it again before it leaves the big screen.
How could you guys miss it? It was huge and CGI. That means some guy, somewhere, spent months animating it.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid 3: Dog Days. Such potential squandered.
The characters therein are quite developed as opposed to other kids films. Cipher_Peon said the character was an asshat in the books... Well, Cipher, he definitely is now! And it shows, and it's beautiful.
The scene that defines the movie is when Greg gets Rowley in trouble and his parents talk disapproval. "Wow" says Greg "They weren't that mad at you. I always get in a lot more trouble."
To which Rowley replies "Big deal. It's because you're used to it."
Suddenly, the whole thing unravels. Epiphanies have never felt this good.
And the film goes downhill from there.
The film doesn't have any sort of moment like that again, and the conflicts between Greg, Rowley and Greg's father are resolved too quickly. And that takes away some of the comedy. What's there is still charming, but yeah. Not as much as the last two films. Still, that moment. Damn. 6/10.
The Expendables 2 - 5.75/10
Decent action flick. The dialogue destroyed it though, it was beyond weak. The humor was forced and ultimately felt thrown in there for the hell of it. And the Chuck Norris parody was stupid. For the all-star cast it has, I'm extremely unimpressed by the results. I don't think I'll be rushing to see the first one anytime soon.
don't know what took me so long, but saw Lost in Translation for the first time. ****ing brilliant. as an expat in China, saves my life too
Sorry, but...
It took you three movies for you to realize that Greg is an asshat in the movies? In the book his actions are almost reasonable, and he actually learns not to do it again. In the movies he just does them and apologizes. BANG! Forgiven.
Either that or I don't remember the books at all. After all, it's been at least five years since I've ready them.
So I'm finally going to watch Lord of the Rings.
Watched the first last weekend and it was pretty good.
Yeah, dude, shame on you. You better love Two Towers and Return if you know what's good for you.
