I enjoyed it, but wish they hadn't mucked with the ending so much.

If you haven't read the original comic, I'd definitely recommend it. I've read it several times, and got more out of it each time.

Considering how faithful the rest of the movie was, I could understand and live with the changed ending. My biggest gripe with it is that some of the casting is pretty off, most notably Ozy and Silk Spectre 2, which stands out even more because the other actors for the main roles absolutely nail their parts. I still get chills from whenever I watch the Dr. Manhattan segment. I really should bite the bullet and import the complete cut sometime, which was unfortunately never released over here.

I finally got around to watching Moon yesterday. It was good, but not as great as those who recommended it to me had led me to believe. Great performance by Sam Rockwell, though.

Only things worth watching - the smoking hot gypsy, the gypsy get smoked by a car, gypsy weight loss program, Gypsy party raid and eating Gypsy pulsating pies while making out with dead people. This movie was horrible.

    Cujo
Shaking your kid apparently revives them.

    Graveyard Shift
Oh come on, how can you seriously keep putting your limbs in odd places with a place converted with rats? I did like the whole mutant rat bat blob croc shark fish aspect of the monster.

Agreed; I thought the actor playing Rorschach did an outstanding job.

Some of my favourite bits from the comic didn't make it into the film at all (understandably so). I love the ornithology essay, and the Tales of the Black Freighter segments, and how they all tie together on multiple levels.

Yeah, I nearly always enjoy watching Sam Rockwell, and I thought the movie was decent, if not spectacular. I don't remember anyone hyping it to me though. I think it's generally a good fit for Philip K. Dick fans.

Just got back from Argo and its fantastic. Everything about it is great. The airport scene at the end, suspense up the ass! Its the beginning of the awards season and it shows but Oscar bait as good as this deserves awards. Seven Psychopaths, which Im seeing later today, has a high bar to beat.

Glad to see this, I was heavily considering seeing this.

    [REC]

After commenting on this Cracked article (Quarantine is #1 on the list), it was suggested to me that I see Quarantine's Spanish antecedent, as it's apparently much, much better.

    It's the damn same.

    Seriously.

It's. The. Same. Freaking. Movie. I'm tempted to put [REC] on on my computer (haven't sent the disc back to Netflix yet) and Quarantine on on my TV just to see how exactly (with what degree of exactitude) that they match up.

Whatever brilliance [REC] may have had in terms of acting performances, ambiance, atmosphere, that sort of thing, it was sort of lost on me because I already knew everything that was going to happen having already seen Quarantine. Which sucks. I guess. I do have [REC] 2 next in my Netflix queue, so I'll give the franchise a chance.

I really wonder why they didn't just release [REC] in the US (and note that [REC] 3 and [REC] 4 are scheduled for theatrical release in the US) with English subtitles or dubbing rather than making a facsimile of the movie.

I'm trying to think of differences between the two, other than the language of course:

*The reporter flirts the firefighters in Quarantine; in [REC] their banter is friendly, but professional.

*Quarantine includes a scene where the cameraman kills a rat with his camera; this scene does not occur in [REC].

*In [REC] the cameraman is actually a trained camera operator and not an actor (his dialogue is dubbed in by an actor). The cameraman in Quarantine is probably the best-known actor in that movie, ironically. (Both by and large use unknowns for their cast).

*In [REC], there is a Japanese couple who speak very little Spanish. In Quarantine, it's an African couple who speak very little English.

*One of the characters in [REC] is a physician's assistant. The equivalent character in Quarantine is a veterinarian.

*There's some religious iconography in the ending scene in the upstairs apartment that is present in [REC] but not Quarantine.

(Oh, and Manuela Velasco >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Jennifer Carpenter :D )

Aaaand that's all I can think of for an hour and a half. Even the scene composition seemed the same. Really weird that they would follow that closely, because it makes it disingenuous to say Quarantine is based on [REC]. Quarantine freaking *is* [REC].

well rec 2 and quarantine 2 are completely different so you'll be glad you watched the original because quarantine 2 was really really bad.
