Try to find a used kit. Best bang for the buck, you can get a pro-level kit for around the same money as a new entry-level set. Pro kits are better quality all the way around, better shells, bearing...

The recording industry's problems are much more than just illegal downloads. Part of it is the cost. When CD's were introduced, the price was higher than cassettes and LP's. That was understandable...
