Wouldn't the suction potentially break blood clots though and make you maybe bleed more?
I wouldn't do it, OP. What I'd do is one of the following:
- cough drop
- take some over the counter sore throat medicine
- drink hot tea
I've heard whiskey helps sore throats. I wouldn't know but an old friend's dad swore by it. He would always give his kids a tablespoon of whiskey to gargle then swallow.

This is not the most effective method for a sore throat.
I do recommend gargling warm salt water though. This helps in two ways. a.) it will draw moisture out of any bacteria that have settled in your throat and b.) it draws the moisture out of your own swollen throat which in turn will relieve the inflammation.
I can resist everything except temptation.

I'd do the warm salt water thing. Get some cough drops too.
