Harmonix, are expecting only indie bands using this service or do you think that this will appeal to medium-to-big acts that won't fit into your in-house chart developing schedule?

Well hopefully I will get to play some on PSN at some point.

It would be pretty cool to look at RBN and say "I made that!", but I won't be able to take credit musically.

The musicians I know are in Colorado while I'm all the way over in Minny. Unless I do this one thing I'm thinking of...but I'd have to run it by the band first, and I haven't talked to them in a while.

Will the tracks that are created have to have the 3 instruments (guitar bass drums) or will some indie acoustic guitar artist be able to through his/ her stuff on it.

RBN is catering to all types of music from Drum & Bass to Classical Guitarists.

They can't -- distribution costs, bandwidth, etc, must all be paid for. Remember, the band only gets 30% of the price. The rest is hacked up by HMX, XBL (and hopefully PSN), all of whom have costs to bear or recoup.

That's why the price range is from 50c up.

Yes I know, I'm just saying the bands themselves would be more than glad to get that kind of exposure for a mere 100$ subscription. Obviously that's not enough for HMX's operations costs, and I'm pretty sure I've read somewhere that MTV was in favour of profits.

Ok, so i'm still a bit confused on this. This is what i think this is about( please correct me if i'm wrong.) Say Breaking Benjamin wanted to have their music on Rock Band, they would simply ask HMX to add their songs onto the platform? Or make some sort of deal with the people at HMX? Again, correct me if i'm wrong. Thanks

I don't know if this has been asked yet but will people be able to release songs with missing instrument parts like no vocals or no guitar?

The "30 days" thing is something Sean is looking in to. But he's already said a couple of times that it is not the case.

Songs will be hand picked (using a number of factors) and brought over to the other consoles.

As HMX has said, the 360 (and XNA) is currently the only infrastructure available to pull this off. They are working with Nintendo and Sony to find something similiar, but for the time being this is what they have available.

Bah. I know why the 360 is being favored this time (for once ), but it still doesn't make me feel any better. Hopefully Sony can get rolling with this- they already have experience hosting lots of user content (LBP).

They would pay a fee to get the tools and the XNA development kit, take their own master tracks, mix them properly, and chart THEIR OWN songs, and then upload them for review and their own testing.

- Band X signs up for the RBN creators club
- Band X gets the tools to author / test / submit a song
- Band X authors / tests / submits a song
- Other RBN creators club members test the song / give feedback and ultimately pass the song
- Band X's song goes live in the RBN music store.
