    Rb3

    Gabe,

See what's up with yesterday's announcement of the coming of RB3:

"Harmonix's ground-breaking band game franchise, Rock Band, is set to become a trilogy. Publisher MTV Games announced today that Rock Band 3 is coming for holiday 2010.

As it has with previous installments, Electronic Arts will act as distributor, implying the company has renewed its distribution agreement with Viacom that expires this month. The decision also comes despite EA's recent announcement that it would be scaling down its distribution business to focus more on owned titles.

Posting the announcement to fans on its Facebook page, the company said Rock Band 3 "will innovate and revolutionize the music genre once again," and promised more details forthcoming soon."

    leavin Vegas now...

Hello fellow bar night promoters. Im on my way back to the airport after checkin out the "nightclub & bar" convention. Meeting the bar night team in person was great. Regretably, i did not ask 1 question about RB3, doh! I dont know what i would need to know about anyways. I know its coming holiday and we all know it will be awesome! I did get to ask a few questions about the rbn since there was a dude there from that department. The convention itself was pretty cool to. Actually learning a little bit more about our industry which I am fairly new to im sure will help out in the future. I had a thought while i was here tho. This was a spur of the moment trip but if resources allow, i thought it would be cool to make this sort of a kick off to come visit all of your bar nights in your cities just to say hi. Well my shuttle is at the airport. Gotta go. Later!

    Tech question guys....

I am fairly new to mobile audio and pre-amp, amps, mixers, etc. I have a 2,000 watt pre-amp that we use now that connects directly to the speakers. I haven't have had the need for a mixer or an amp just yet. We now have a recurring gig at a bar and they would also like us to plugin to their sound system as well for maximum coverage.

On the back of the pre-amp, there are RCA outputs labelled "pre out." Their mixer has an RCA connection labelled "tape in." If I connect those two, would it work theoretically, or would I need some sort of adaptor and connect to the larger input slots on the mixer? I am also not 100% sure if "pre out" is the proper out put slot either...

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

That's cool.. THX & great! I see there is one in Columbus this week now! YaY! i'd been checking for a few months now to see if any RB bar nights would be around. Good things aRe on the horizon... & NoW RB#3!!!>.<!!! Wow, i can't wait. Hopefully it'll have "Kids" by MGMT on it as a Core song.. & "Free Will" by Rush.. maybe even some Floyd!. Any/& or all of the song's that are on my profile under *SONGs I'd like to see in RockBand, would make me more than a happy man. I'm looking forwand to a list of 100+ core tunes but im sure it maybe harder to name them all right now with so many already as dlc & in other music installments... regardless w/e they(HMX) comes up with i'm sure it'll be great rock & roll(so long as they forget about the gaga). lol
*Alot of us put those 5 songs there HoPiNg to see them(their favorite songs) in RB, i just wonder if they are even taken into consideration, or looked @ by anyone. JW - C

    Pre-out to Tape in

Yes, connecting the two should work. Your pre-out connection bypasses your 2,000 watt amp and its main outs. Be sure to turn the levels down of your amp and their mixer before testing, then increase levels as needed. Ideally, you want a strong signal without distorting/clipping from your pre-out and adjust the mixer tape-in / mixer main-outs level to the house amp for preferred volume from that. In other words, don't have your pre-out level set low and their mixer tape-in set high. This would introduce unwanted distortion into the audio signal chain. You could also link your signal to one or two channel inputs of their mixer. You may simply need an "RCA to 1/4" mono phono adapter(s)" to attach to your RCA cable, unless their mixer has RCA inputs on some channels available. You should keep extra adapters and cables in your kit anyway for oddball situations that come up.

Thanks! That's exactly what I needed to know. I have never needed cables or adapters only because no one has asked us to plug right into their system as ours is usually more than enough.

I would assume this also means a re-calibration is necessary? That might be a problem at 9:30pm on a Saturday night. Oy...

Finally, their mixer and our set-up are about 30' away from each other. I have a cable that is long enough, however, will I still be able to control the volume from the pre-amp itself and not their mixer (located behind the bar with no room to move)? It would be fine if I could leave at one level but switching back and forth from the iPod to the Xbox usually causes volume differences. Thanks again!

    YRDaddy,

Glad your trip was a good one and you were able to garner some information from it. I wish I would have known about it and I would have flown in to LV from DC to check it out also.

There has been a lot of GREAT Announcements from Harmonix over the past few days, Lady Gaga releases, the RB3 release and Now GD:RB!! Totally looking forward to all of these, plus the RBN stuff. So hard to keep up with the new music and announcements. Boy there will be lots of funds coming out of the company bankroll over this year - heh.

Anyhow, still trying to get a gig or two in a few places here in the Northern Virginia area. It is like they don't want to even try it out. With RBBN being all new and such. Even giving them a break to try us out. But I am still at it "knockin'" on the doors and getting my info out. Some one is bound to want this service in the DC area. With the warmer weather coming, people will be getting out and about to these establishments.

We could possibly get in at a couple places, one being The Greene Turtle (Leesburg, VA) for a demo and O'Malleys Sports and Pub (Sterling, VA). They all seem interested in the idea and do I hope that they visit our website, read our brochure to see what services we are providing and to see the links on the website just to get an idea of what you all are doing out there and the successful nights you have had.

Well next Tuesday, 3-16-10, I will be heading out to a Business to Business Social and hope to get something out of that in the corporate world (parties, events, etc.).

As for your suggestion about flying around and meeting us and such and it would be nice to meet you. We should plan a mini-convention of sort of our own. Centrally located in the US. Then we could meet each other, share ideas, what works for your business and what doesn't, tips, techniques, etc. Just my thought on this. All of this even being a business expense too.

Once I get regular gigs going here in the DC area, you are more than welcome to come stay at our place. That would save you on any hotel and food expenses. Just keep watching my Tweets, FB and web updates for gig announcements..

BTW, thanks for following our progression on FB and Twitter. Appreciate it.

Anyhow, hope to talk with you sometime soon!!

    Take care all!!

    YRDaddy,
Glad you were able to make it to the convention, sounds like a blast.
Going to Game Stop tomorrow to pre-order GD!
We would love to have come out and visit anytime. Our shows are every Thursday evening, you could coordinate and hit us on Thursday and make it to Portland (Ground Kontrol) in the same trip.
    Talk to you soon,

Well... I was too tired to do our Thursday Night gig tonight. So I asked a buddy/employee to do it and I was looking forward stayin home and experiencing this live streaming thing that all the cool kids are raving about . Alas the one night I actually get to watch it the venue has issues with the wifi . So, I thought I would touch base with you guys again.

This convention did come up rather quick which didnt give any of us much time to plan somethin out. I barely saw the announcement on Monday afternoon on the Bar Night website! If you didnt make it, dont get to down. If you are a member of the bar night program than you already know all the info there is to know. This was more of a personal trip in order for me to meet the Bar Night Night team in person and thank them for all their efforts and support. The convention itself was pretty cool too. I gotta keep an eye out for a more local event just like this one. Every person there owned a bar or venue that they where looking for equipment, alcahol, or entertainment ideas for. Problem is that they where from all over the country and Death of the Arcade is unfortunately not national... yet, lol (by the way... anybody here from Minnisota?).

Glad someone was able to answer your technical question klubby. I am by no means a sound engineer or expert, my technical consulting consist of, if it fits in the hole, plug it in and see what happens (which is cohincidently my life moto too)
