But I wouldn't call it a sound. It's an ideology, not entirely unlike punk in nature, although obviously that word doesn't mean what it once did. Feel I can concede because I agree that there is a unique quality to any progressive music - and maybe that's what you were referring to. But for a genre created to describe bands breaking out of the norm, I would never try to claim that it had a specific sound. Even the "classic" bands all sounded very different, and hell, shouldn't they?
What I do agree with is that it's becoming diluted. I just don't think it's because they sound different but rather because they're not progressive. On the other hand, I'm pretty sure Porcupine Tree is progressive, albeit I don't listen to them so I won't assert anything.

Most core related genres (Sadcore is an exception) have ties to Hardcore (AKA Hardcore Punk. No you scene brats, Hardcore is not a form of metal, it is hardcore punk)
Not removing this until we get some Sunn O)))
in which case this will be on for a while.
I voted 'alternative' because it is just nonsensical how both The Offspring and R.E.M. can be grouped together like this.
The Offspring aren't alternative...

I got a hilarious PM regarding this thread and the current state of classic rock and how it came to be. I'm sorry guy who PM'd me, but I have no idea how to reply to such a PM
I'm sorry, is that okay? You sure? Ha, alright. Okay. Sorry though
