They can't let that be a basis on whether or not to release more Muse songs.

#1) PAX East was an event that not everyone can get to
#2) A room full of (mostly) gaming industry people isn't representative of the fan base

If HMX released songs based on how "the community" answers them, we wouldn't have a second Lady Gaga pack, more Queen, more Billy Joel, etc.

I think there are enough people who want Muse songs in Rock Band, both on and off the forums, to warrant HMX releasing more material.

I never said that. I was showing there's an obvious disconnect between fans would who buy songs, and people who bought songs just to expand their library early on.

    Fair enough.

However, just because someone who plays Rock Band doesn't own a Muse album, it doesn't mean that they won't download the songs to play. I think there are enough examples on the forums of people downloading, and enjoying, songs for Rock Band that are not in their personal music libraries.

You say that "Hysteria" is a top seller because it was released early on. If people downloaded that one song over 3 years ago and enjoyed it, chances are they will download any new Muse material HMX releases.

I picked up Hysteria a few weeks back... good Lord, that song is hell on bass!

(I liked the song after I heard it, so I figured I would support the cause... you know... that karma thing... next thing you know, we get Live as DLC.)

It's not that bad on bass once you figure out the HO/PO pattern.

I actually find playing the song on guitar good practice. There's a section of the song where Matt matches what Chris is playing on bass.

Considering Muse has been the single most requested band to be put in Rock Band for literally YEARS now, and that at this point whenever a HMX employee is asked anything that has anything to do with Muse ever, they make some snide remark, I'm guessing either:

    A) HMX is having SERIOUS trouble making a reasonable deal with the band/label/whoever owns the rights, to the point where for the time being, it's simply not worth what they would have to go through to get the rights regardless of how well the songs would sell.

or B) They're secretly planning some ridiculous release like a 20 song track pack or something.

    My money's on A.

The optimist in me, however, would FREAKIN LOVE SOME MORE MUSE YEEEAAAHHHHHH

Actually, the "who owns an album" question is interesting (to me at least). I think a huge part of it is that the Muse albums weren't available in the US due to licensing pretty much until Absolution came out, so Showbiz and Origin I don't think had distribution in the US before that. As a result, the window of time for people to have bought Muse albums has been slightly less.

I really don't understand the exact nature of how licensing could be an issue, when there's really just so little in the way of competition in the US music game business as far as licensing is concerned in that regard.

I'm not expecting Muse to pop in 2011 honestly. I think the next Muse studio album would be the best bet for an additional Rock Band release, and I wouldn't expect anything like that before 2012 certainly.

So what? You say that like there's a waiting period on buying Muse albums. There isn't. Like 'em? Buy 'em.

Their second album which was released in 2001 in the rest of the world didn't come out here until 2005, due to their label at the time being idiotic and refusing to release it because they didn't like Matt's vocal work and couldn't imagine the songs playing on the radio (even though the singles got plenty of radio play in the UK and Europe).

Interestingly, a number of people torrented it. There are a couple interviews with the band where they mention being surprised when touring the US at the time that some people actually knew the songs.

Also, I really do think that question is a bit weighted because in this day and age, owning an album is a novelty. I would suspect that those people who don't own a Muse album at least have a song or two in their digital music libraries.
