Agreed. I've heard that logic far too many times. You would think that kind no one would even submit that sort of gross oversimplification. Sure, if I had known then what I know now, I would have bought an XBOX and started there. But I've come too far on the PS3 to turn back now.

Sorry, the thought of abandoning hundreds of dollars of investment and starting over again in particular stuck out as not being a real suggestion. It's really not worth the switch. Sure there's a delay in some songs, but I'll get over it. A majority of the big stuff will make it over in due time.

And to Harmonix, I understand that the cap was established to make QA on both sides manageable, but you aren't releasing the high volume of standard DLC you used to as frequently anymore, so is it possible in letting some more RBN tracks in to fill that void?

So you think DaxterDude was being sarcastic? I don't. Perhaps I'm wrong.

    Anyway...

This would be great, but I'm not going to get my hopes up about Sony facilitating it.

If DLC and the RBN existed together in a vacuum, this would make perfect sense. We could establish something like a 10-song-per-week standard. A lighter DLC load would allow for more RBN songs to come through, and a heavier DLC load would mean that PS3 players would get no RBN songs at all.

...I imagine you see the problem here.

Fortunately, this isn't the way it works. Speaking only with regards to Harmonix, the PS3 RBN release is isolated from everything else. We've committed to 5 RBN songs a week on PS3, no matter what, and we're pretty good at figuring out how long that will take by now.

Consequently, all necessary parties at Harmonix set the appropriate amount of time aside each week to process 5 RBN songs for PS3 without regular DLC or any other Harmonix projects cutting into that time. I personally believe this is a much better situation for RBN fans on the PS3 than a flexible policy would be.

    Funny you should mention that.

I understand that there would be some weeks with few or no RBN songs, but if the combined cap was as you said at 10, those weeks would be few and far between.

The normal release week seems to be 3 official songs, which in this scenario would equal 7 songs per week, 2 more than we currently receive, and the only way to receive less than we do now are weeks with more than 5 songs as official DLC, which doesn't happen nearly as often.
In the long run, we would get more songs than our current rate, even if the week by week varied.

Regardless of what content got ported(DLC or RBN), there would never be a "dry" week: players could always look forward to having 10 new songs every week. Even if players didn't get a single RBN song, they'd still have 10 new DLC songs to satisfy them. Personally, I'd prefer such a system.

Keep in mind Harmonix has other things that require time and resources, including Dance Central DLC and projects like Rock Band Blitz, which weren't necessarily the case when they first began porting RBN tunes to the PS3. Under the circumstances I think it's good they've promised five "no matter what."
It's all right. Everything will work out fine.
It's all right. We're going to the end of the line!

I didn't think he was, I though you were in your response to his proposal, so I guess I'm wrong.

My response to DaxterDude's proposal was sarcasm incarnate. You weren't wrong about that. Your response to jmhard at the top of page 4 is where I got confused. He saw my point (that DD's post was moronic) and agreed with it.
