Can someone give me an idea of what it's like when a certain musician DJs as opposed to a typical concert set? The frontman from Cold Cave (Wesley Eisold) is DJing at a record store in Hollywood so I want to know if it would be worth the drive, though the thought of a one armed man DJing also sounds pretty legit. Cults are also doing a free show in LA yyyeeeeeee

RO: I love the perspectives of the musicians of the Japanese avant-garde, particularly in the Onkyo and harsh noise movements. I find it endlessly endearing that the movements use literally opposite means to convey an appreciation of the same thing: subversion of and intrusion upon the every-day. Dead giveaway of some intentions came from a Merzbow interview where he said he makes noise to force people in bustling loud-ass Tokyo to just shut up for once. The appreciation for silence in the nation's underground music is thus a sort of common thread. Just thought someone else might find that really awesome.

Me as well, I browse some other music forums but never post on them and don't visit them with the frequency that I do here. There are simply too many cool threads and people to stop coming around this place, it probably helps that I've been around since 2007 even I didn't really start posting with regularity until about 2009ish. The music recommendation thread and afterstasis' albums thread are by far some of the best threads I've seen here and the 2 that stick out in my mind the most other than this thread.

Why would you even ask that? Shame, Rob, shame.

RO: The Stone Roses debut is one of the greatest pop albums ever recorded. I only bring this up because I think I've actually worn out my vinyl copy. That doesn't happen very often (except for that Sun O))) album that the manufacturers sent me nearly cracked in half. Dicks).

I hope not for a long, long time. I still randomly pick pages in this thread for music reccs. If I knew how I'd probably archive it (but I think I'd have to archive each page separately, and that wouldn't be very fun)

    RIP Jason Noble.
Rodan and Rachel's were both pretty important bands for me.

Damn, Italy is such a nice place. Except for the food. I swear, they hate vegetarians over here. If something doesn't have meat in it, then its guaranteed to have tons of cheese. At least they're (moderately) nicer to cyclists than in London.

In music news, despite liking his music for a looong time, I'm now really into Aphex Twin. Something just clicked.
