Whether they still even qualify as 'prog' is a matter of some debate, but new Marillion is due out in the next month.

    First track ("Power"):

I don't know why they wouldn't still qualify as prog, (sure they've gone a little poppier with Hogarth in some instances, but not completely) but I do know I'm excited for their new album. When I saw them in June, Power was the only song from their upcoming album that they played. I enjoy the song, so hopefully the rest of the album is as good or better.

Considering that Hogarth-era Marillion has been a singles-oriented band, I have a feeling that Power is likely the best track on the album, or close to it. Still, it's a good song.

While true, it does pique my curiosity that the new album is 8 tracks and over 72 minutes. With 'Power' being only 6 minutes, that leaves the rest of the tracks averaging almost nine and a half minutes each.

With modern Marillion, I usually like their singles and their long-form songs - it's everything in between (the album filler that comprises some 60+% of their albums) that has been awful. That average track length foretells of some long-form songs.

The longest song on Somewhere Else is under 8 minutes. Only one song on each of the Happiness Is The Road discs breaks 8 minutes, the longest at 10:05. I'm hoping the return to lengthy songs means a return to songs like The Invisible Man, Ocean Cloud, and Neverland (three 12+ pieces on the full edition of Marbles, IMHO their last strong album. It had good short singles, too.)

Ah, hadn't heard that the running time was that long. That does hold some promise, then.

Oh MAN oh MAN oh MAN

Bob Mould's latest is streaming for free online, and it's eating my face right now.

I preordered my copy from Merge, and I am watching the mail for it like a little kid.

Even more bummed that I won't be able to see him in San Fran since it's the day before I move in to Davis, pretty good so far though.
