And even still that was a classic example of the non-single tracks being stronger than the singles (in particular Sweetest Perfection, Waiting For The Night [a live staple anymore], Blue Dress [my personal favorite track off of the album], Clean)...

RO: I kind of sort of like Save Ferris' version of Come on Eileen more than the original.
Grand Funk Railroad gets this kinda stigma as well with "We're An American Band", "Some Kind of Wonderful", and their cover of "The Loco-motion". Sounds almost nothing like them for the most part.

Only other one I kinda throw into this is Deep Blue Something's "Breakfast at Tiffany's" (not really a bad song, but sounds nothing like their pseudo-R.E.M. sound they usually have).

After Fall quarter is over, I will officially be able to DJ for KDVS, UC Davis's college radio station. It's one of the few college radio stations that isn't bound by university regulations, has the second biggest music or vinyl collection (I forget which) on the west coast, and has hosted local shows from !!!, Death Grips, Head and the Heart, and a bunch of other great bands. I'll let you guys know when my session is on, can't wait.

In my hiatus, I've discovered that Aphex Twin and GY!BE are freaking awesome bands.
We need sludgey and droney and stonery metal:
    Dirge
    Sleep
    Bongripper
    Sunn O)))
    Electric Wizard
    Earth
    Neurosis
    Cult of Luna

I realized that GY!BE is local and their latest album references local political/social events of the latest spring.
It was like a bird of rarest-spun heaven metal or like silvery wine flowing in a spaceship, gravity all nonsense now.

I haven't heard the new GY!BE album yet. I really need to get on doing that soon.

    Neither have I.

I can't think of a non-metal album I listened to from this year, besides Van Halen. I should definitely fix that.

It's good, but it's no Lift Your Skinny Fists. It goes post rock epic/drone piece/drone piece/post rock epic.

That's a hell of an act to follow, though. Still haven't gotten a chance to listen to it myself, but I've heard a lot of good stuff about it.
