DLC Discussion Thread Week of 9/25: Green Day 5 Pack! "Oh Love" Plus 4 GDRB Classics

I really am not sure why so many people are angry over this. I think it is great and I hope HMX does this with RB1, RB2, LEGO, and (dreaming) The Beatles so people who got into Rock Band later than I did can build up their library.

Well I hope they don't bother with RB1, I'll happily let anyone borrow my PS3 copy who needs it. Beatles on the other hand I would completely welcome. It would also be nice if they let you lower the vocals more (not that I don't like Paul's singing or anything).

Nada for my list (considering I have GDRB). Not super fond of 'Oh Love' like the other new one better, 'Let Yourself Go'.

We just released Blitz, a title that offers you a second life for your entire RB DLC library at no charge. We just put over 1,100 tracks on sale, which I believe is be the biggest sale in the history of this console generation. But people are butt hurt because there's one "new" song this week. Sometimes the sense of entitlement is absolutely baffling.

This comforts me. Because, as a hardcore player, I love the Blitz soundtrack. It's full of great hardcore songs and, more importantly for me, great keys songs... oh wait...

Really, though, the sale is great, especially since there are all those keys songs that.... oh...

Yeah...

But yeah, screw me for wanting to be as "entitled" as any other instrument, right? I should probably have forced myself to prefer guitar so I could fit into what you guys consider your demographic.

This is fascinating. On the one hand, if I had known I'd eventually have the option to cherry pick songs, I probably wouldn't have bought the Green Day disc, since it was mostly a handful of songs that I was interested in, and I've never been crazy about the amount of space they take up on my hard drive and on the song list. On the other hand, a few of my friends really like the band, and they've definitely enjoyed playing songs that I wouldn't have bought if I cherry picked the singles I like.

I don't really have any objection to them rereleasing previous disc content, but I feel like if they wanted to double-dip on Green Day songs, it would have been more interesting to grab live versions or something.

It makes sense that keys are left out of these versions, since I can't even think of any Green Day songs with keys, but it'll be disappointing if they rerelease RB1 songs or Lego Rock Band songs without adding keys and harmonies to songs where they would add a lot to the gameplay.

They're not minimizing keys, people just aren't playing keys. It's a double edged sword. There were a number of excellent keys songs early on. But if those weren't selling enough to justify the added expense, it's going to scale back.

As if good keys songs are mutually exclusive with good guitar songs? No.

As baffling as a company that bashes its hardcore fan base when they don't like the direction that they are heading. To me, RB is more multi-player karaoke than a game, but it only remains fun if there is fresh content that people enjoy. I understand the financial reasoning for cutting back, but that does not mean that we as fans do not have a right to be disappointed. Most companies would appreciate the feedback (positive or negative) to their decisions.

There is a HUGE difference between constructive criticism and a vile rant in the anonymity of the internet. I am more than happy to collect negative feedback and pass it up the chain, but there are posts in this thread that serve absolutely no one. There is no constructive feedback or useful data in the name calling, the exasperated swear or the slurs that I've deleted.

Is it "bashing" the hardcore fans to remind some of them that the other 95% of the community is out there and that this is fresh content to them? There are a lot of posters who sometimes forget that the community is not the forums. I am all for hardcore support and I spend enough time here on the forums answering questions, fielding suggestions and palling around to support that. Our hardcore fans are hugely important to us and we do a lot to prioritize their requests and concerns and we make sure they are our first resource when we have questions that only our most loyal fans can answer. But that doesn't mean that all of them are always right and that they are entitled to say whatever they want however they want.

People are mad because it feels like the count down to the end.

And some people felt like the sale was a countdown to the end, and that Blitz was a countdown to the end, and that no RB4 this year was a countdown to the end, and that no Pro hardware was a countdown to the end, and that no Beatles export was a countdown to the end, etc. Some people have been wringing their hands about "the end" for the last 3 years. Let them, it just means they're the ones having less fun.

We're not putting this out because we're starved for content and there's nothing in the pipeline. If people want to worry that the end is nigh because we're putting out DLC from a highly requested band that has sold 65 million records, let them. We still have DLC lined up for months and we're still supporting Blitz, the game we just released a few weeks ago.

By the looks of things, the wiiU is supporting wii remotes, and I'm sure they said old content could be transferred and still work. No such word about the other two...
