    The 2nd Law - Muse 8/10

It's not their best work, by far. But it's their most varied piece to date. Listening to it from start to finish was... an interesting journey to say the least, and while some of there ventures into electronica and dubstep left a bitter taste (It took seeing unsustainable live to actually enjoy the song), others were very enjoyable. Follow me, in particular, was actually quite beautiful... once you get past the wub wub wubs.

Having chris sing lead vocals should have been done sooner. It's these songs that are some of the strongest singles on the album. If anything, the one thing I took away from the experience, was that the drumming wasn't as good as it could have been. Most of the drum beats were too similar and repetitive, and after a while, made the songs merge into one electronic mess. Luckily, a few of the songs strayed away from this repetitiveness.

Overall, its a varied experience that will grind with some, and please the others, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

    Ride the Lightning - Metallica

Listening to this again for the first time in ages reminded me why I liked Metallica in the first place. I pretty much forgot about them once I seriously got into Megadeth, but RTL reminded me I could still enjoy Metallica while preferring Megadeth. This is their best album, not Master of Puppets.

    Creeping Death
    Fight Fire with Fire
    Fade to Black
    Ride to Lightning
    For Whom the Bell Tolls
    Trapped Under Ice
    The Call of Ktulu
    Escape

Creeping Death is just an awesome underrated song, Fight Fire with Fire might be Metallica's heaviest song, and Fade to Black I really enjoy, despite being a Metallica ballad, of sorts. The other songs are really strong, For Whom the Bell Tolls having some excellent riffs and Ride the Lightning an incredible solo.

I'm conflicted between a 9 or a 9.5, but for getting me back into Metallica, I'm gonna have to rate this a 9.5/10.

Atom & His Package - Attention! Blah Blah Blah

Adam Goren definitely dropped the ball on this release. In becoming more punk rock and less fun, silly, idiosyncratic guy, he loses a lot of his charms. It's weird saying that he's too grown up here, since the instrumental content is definitely not what you would expect from many middle aged guys who aren't Ted Leo or whatever, but he is. This is evidenced not only by a more traditionalist approach to punk that's outlined on the release, but by lyrical content. He gets upset with young hip college types, acts a little preachy. The incoherent rants against Palestine supporters in the Anglosphere and smokers come off as really unnecessary. He used to be fun, and with this, he turned into a pissed off dad. Shame, honestly.

    6/10; middling

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Show Your Bones (9.5/10)
    My fav album of theirs.

Radiohead - The King Of Limbs (9/10)
It took Will Smith's kid's sampled track for me to really give this a listen.

Leadership By Assault - A Little Less Than Honest (8/10)
It's like Placebo, Lana Del Rey and Paramore had a threesome

Skid Row - Slave to the Grind

An amazing, yet underrated, metal album. Why "underrated", if Skid Row is well-known enough, you ask? Well, it's because it had the misfortune of being released in 1991, when it got obfuscated by the grunge explosion and swept away in the great 80s hair metal washout (even though Skid Row wasn't quite a hair band).
Regardless, this album blows down the doors with its pungent social criticism layered with bricks upon bricks of heavy chords and wild guitar solos. The title track and "The Threat" are two great examples of this, and also showcase how good Rachel Bolan's lyric-writing can get. Sure, there's the typical power ballad in there ("In a Darkened Room"), but even it doesn't outshine the rest of the album (besides, it's a pretty damn nice song, mind you). Even though "Wasted Time", as the closing track, doesn't quite complete the package with a punch, it's still pretty good too.

    My rating: 9.5/10

    Bis - Social Dancing (8.7/10)

After listening to The New Transistor Heroes, I decided to try the next album. I keep hearing about how the band traded in their old, lo-fi sound for something slicker, which is true. The production is definitely better, and this is by no means a bad thing. For example, it finally laid that terrible MIDI-drum machine to rest for something that doesn't sound so bad. But anyways. The style in all actuality hasn't changed a lot, just the sound. It's pretty good. Not quite as good as TNTH, but good enough that it doesn't fall into a sophomore slump.

    Essential track: Eurodisco.

Velvet Underground & Nico- Velvet Underground (10/10)

Usually, I'm not a fan of more avant-garde stuff. I feel that it's different for the sole sake of being different, and it's prone to no quality control. However, this album was a complete classic. For an 9in-depth review, click here, but suffice to say, this album is fantastic.
