Bingo. It's cliche to mention, but Jimi Hendrix with and without the Experience only had one Top 40 hit in his entire career.
Gooby pls
I've warmed up to Animal Collective, but I think their singles and last three or four albums are a pretty poor representation of their music.

I'd say that about 50% of what I have in my music collection I discovered through the Internet. Rougly 20% was via Satellite Radio, 15% was via buying albums based on a band's album covers and/or hearing their music being played at an indepenant record store, 10% reccomendations via friends, and 5% mainstream media (if that).
Bands I'd love to see as DLC for Rock Band:
Bathory []
Bal Sagoth []
Amorphis []
Emperor [X]
Enslaved []
Not sure about proportions, but from most to least here's where I discover most of my music:
- The internet, particularly last.fm.
- Videogame soundtracks. GH and RB are the main ones, but I also discovered some bands through Saints Row and Brutal Legend.
- Free CDs in music magazines.
- Support acts for bands I see live.
- Other.
I have a goto guy for music who has set me up with almost all of my current favorite bands of all time. no joke. He literally has shown me every one of my top five bands.
Also, I think that Metallica is over-rated. Some one will likely crucify me for that statement, but I only think it because I'm not the biggest metal fan in any sense of the word. It just does nothing for me.
Not another Big Four conversation. Please.

I consider Slayer to be overrated, and I like Megadeth, but I hate Dave Mustaine.
