Is it over for Rock Band?Looks that way to me.The people here are saying so and their the hard core fans and if they have given up on the game.HMX is diging a hole for Rock Band with games like Blitz and Dance Central. But the thing that will kill it in the end will be that before long you will not be able to get a plastic guitar to play the game with.

Rock Band is not dead until the DLC stops coming out. I can wait till the next gen Xbox for a new game. As long as all the DLC transfers over and current gen plastic instruments work on the newer console a RB4 looks highly possible to happen.
    Lets get to 5000 songs!

I still don't understand how Rock Band Blitz can possibly be interpreted as the end of Rock Band.

I'd *like* to see an RB4 that takes the best of RB2 and RB3 (player access to buttons and knobs like venue selection, band assignments, etc. as well as fixes the animation goofiness in RB3). Kind of a Gold Edition that simply pulls together what people liked best about 2 and 3 but with the latest in avatar and animation graphics?

What I think IS going to happen is just a small steady continuance of DLC as old artists figure out their stuff rotting on the shelf gets a bump and new artists get exposure through this game.

Also, its going to get harder and harder to find replacement or upgraded instrument controllers. Its already difficult enough I feel like I need to collect extras :P

I want to see one last major RB game on this generation of consoles. I think RB4 would be a nice sendoff and I think it could very well happen. I definitely want to see RB4 (and score duels, damnit). And I'm sure that HMX will continue with the DLC train every week. I still don't know how they're able to afford all that music licensing for both the RB and DC series especially as an independent company now, but they can still obviously pump out songs, so I guess there's no worrying to be had about that.

I'm the hardest hardcore fan you're gonna find. I might have accepted that if the current state of things continue that there will be no Rock Band 4, but that doesn't mean I think the franchise is dead.

It's not dead until the encore is over, and that's yet to happen.

I'll be here doing everything I can with TAG to make sure we keep getting songs as long as we're able. Just because I don't think there will be a Rock Band 4 doesn't mean that Rock Band 3 DLC can't continue for a good while yet.

I'm going on record saying that the neXtBox will be out November 2013, but it's going to take a bit before it catches on enough that it becomes THE XBox and the 360 gets left behind. As long as the instruments hold out and the hard core stick around we've probably got about 18-24 months before that happens. So theoretically (if things hold out) we've still got a good while before RB is 'over'.

And even when it's over it's not over. If the amount of songs released continues weekly I'd say by that point we'd have about 5000 songs to play.

Even when the DLC stops...5000 songs? That's going to keep me busy for a very long damn time. Long after Rock Band is a fond memory in the public's eye I'll still be playing it.

Even if that means I have to sing to do it :P

People keep saying "if instruments hold up" ..... that's a HEYOOOOGE "if." Mustangs are dirt cheap right now (at least compared to what they were at launch), around $50 for all three consoles. It's unlikely you're gonna find a 5-button guitar for less than double that. And there's no reason to believe the situation will ever get better on that front.

I just meant the instruments I have. I don't mean the supply. I know the supply is effed

I have three guitars, one wired guitar, two drumsets (one's wired), one keyboard, and three mics.

One of my guitars is in piss poor shape, and the cymbals on the drumset have been beaten to double hitting not worth playing pro status.

I'm just talking about if my personal stash of instruments hold up :P

The long term durability of the franchise will always rest on the availability of the peripherals. Period. HMX can churn out Dance Central titles because all you need is a Kinect. It's small and is more or less useful for more than one game.

Instrument peripherals aren't particularly small, they aren't multi-use, and they aren't as widely available. The series will die a slow, agonising death kept alive only by the life support that is DLC unless there is a new infusion of instruments. And even then, the consumer may still reject it.

Anything else we tell ourselves is just trying to avoid the unpleasant truth: Rock Band is dead. It just doesn't know it yet.

I see. Wish I had a 'stash' :\ I've got about four broken 5-button guitars that I really don't know why I haven't just chucked them yet. Got one that's only sort of broken (it overhits every now and then) that's my primary, and one more I haven't unboxed.

Welp, guess it's time to close down the forums.
