So, what is the 'best' power up combo now that flame notes are utterly crushed? I find Jackpot and blast notes gets.. semi-close to the scores without lane-juggling. It's a shame, because I was just getting the hang of it too. Is bandmate + flame still viable to top the tournaments, or...?

Although I had #1 scores for quite awhile before the juggling trick was discovered, flame notes NEED TO BE UN-NERFED. It's nonsensical to punish the combination that takes the most amount of skill to use successfully in the game. Buffing blitz mode wouldn't hurt either, as it would rightfully punish dropping combos.

I assumed Pinball was how people are still getting insane scores for the tournament, but it's so boring, and frustrating trying to do that on a flatscreen t.v .

I have no room to talk as my scores using them aren't anything good, but Flames really were the best show of skill in the game. Pinball doesn't really have anything to DO with actually playing the song. Just hit the ball, do correct Synchs, and button mash your way to happiness (kudos to those who can do all that juggling and not actually button mash though).

The tournament might have better if there were restrictions on the power-ups chosen and just outright ban pinball and flame notes from it. Better yet, to show real equal test of skill, force a specific set of power-ups on a song, like only using point doubler and no purple notes for a 'classic' RB contest.
This guy, someone give him a medal. This is a solution I support. Also your reasoning for not playing is the same as mine. Goddamn discouraging to play Limelight and Caravan and not even be able to come within a mile of my high scores. They're some of my favourite songs but I don't feel like playing them any more because I used to be so accustomed to wrecking the gold star cap with ease before and now it seems that I need a near perfect run to get a GS. It's really discouraging and keeps me from coming back every week. I still play but nowhere near as much.
I never thought a game would be able to inspire the formation of a real band or strengthen friendships. Thank you Harmonix, for making Rock Band.

Synch/Pinaball seems to be the go to. If you're really good, Synch/Pinball/Jackpot maybe...

So spaz around the controllers a bit and hit the pinball? Great. At least flame notes needed skill to some degree, especially with jackpot.

If Pinball/Jackpot doesn't require some skill, I don't know what does.

Sure, it may not be traditional rhythm game skill, but still...

So having the game deciding where flame notes will spawn in a song and what lanes they spawn? Great. At least keeping pinball alive is more dependent on human skill than arbitrary game play spawns that you have no control over.

So random spamming buttons to hit flames with bandmate? Great.

See I can use the same flawed logic and arguments on other combos.

All 3 combos require a great deal of skill to use effectively. And all 3 combos have an element of luck that will determine your success too. That's just how Rock Band Blitz is and the effect of having randomly placed power ups. If you want a pure skill based game with no random luck elements and the skill required is soley on hitting notes accurately and never missing..well that's Rock Band 3. Blitz is more of an arcadey game and the skill shouldn't necessarily be 100% dependent on hitting notes accurately. There are only 2 buttons with a large timing window. It's not meant to simulate music. It's more arcadey fun of trying to build as high as a score as possible using the mechanics within the game, which is why I don't have much of a problem with pinball being in it. I do have somewhat of a problem with pinball being the only dominating powerup though which is why I want flame notes back.

until the first player mods his controller to do a "switch lane, hit both buttons, switch lane, hit both buttons" command within 10th's of seconds.

People use trainers and glitches to grief players in Dark Souls.
People use always UAV hacks to have an unfair advantage in CoD
People always find a way to cheat in video games and there isn't much you can do about it. As long as you know that person is a cheater you can just happily ignore them and hopefully the devs will do something about it. If not then just worry about your own accomplishments and such.

my point exactly, there will always be cheats/exploits. which is what makes this flame nerf even more useless

I'm not arguing that it requires luck, but I'm arguing that the nerf is useless because in order to be competent you have to treat the game as arkanoid with a rock band twist and there is no real alternative that compares. I'm pretty sure HMX didn't make the game saying "Hey let's make an Arkanoid clone and slap the Rock Band name on it." but it sure feels like that now.
