PS3 is basically all metal... and techno being ported now.
It's not all metal, just mostly metal. Out of the 700 or so RBN 1.0 & 2.0 songs that are available on the PS3, I now own 110 of them, i'd say that's not bad. Sure, a few of them are metal (those with singable vocals), but the rest is pretty damn good content (some being better than regular DLC).

I'm quite happy for the drummers here to get their metal on. Out of the 20 songs we get each month, i'd be ecstatic if just one of my requests made up that 20 (no prizes for guessing which song i'd want the most!).

Even though i've only bought a couple of RBN songs in recent weeks, I think the updates have been more varied and offered different genres... that's awesome!

A lot of week have been 50% of them metal/electronic, not complaining really... just wish we saw more Indie/Alternative. (They also mislabel stuff, most "Punk" now is screaming... it's not even Punk oriented at all.. yes the drums may sound punk but there's nothing else about it that is. So i guess i'll say that i'd put it under metal or just plain harder rock...)
    Wishlist:
    The Cure [1]
    Queen [28?]
    AFI [7]
    My Chem. [3]

It's labeled by the RBN authors, who often discuss with the band/label about what genre they want to put something under.

Hardcore has a lot of screaming and unclean vocals. Hardcore is very much part of punk music. So if you don't like it, that's fine, but it's inaccurate to claim that it's not punk music just because it has screaming.

There is a genre preference difference between our PS3 players and our Xbox 360 players, which we try to respect by maintaining a balance of genres. But it's important to remember that the presence of alternative (or lack thereof) is directly dependent upon what's being released through the RBN for Xbox 360.

Right now, there are 20 PS3-eligible alternative songs and 17 PS3-eligible indie rock songs on Xbox 360. At my last check, none of those songs have cracked 300 plays on the Xbox 360 leaderboards.

By contrast, there are 143 eligible metal songs, and the average leaderboard play count on the eligible metal songs is dramatically higher than the average leaderboard play count on the eligible alternative and indie rock songs.

Based on song plays as a reasonable measure of customer enjoyment, even though PS3 players are not as drawn to metal as they are to indie rock and alternative, we're likely to make more PS3 players happy by releasing a high percentage of metal right now.

I'd definitely like to have more alternative/indie stuff. Even a few more country tracks, just for something different. But hey, if metal is what sells, even if it makes up say, 10-15 out of the 20 songs we get each month, so be it. I just hope there's at least a few songs in that 20 that appeal to me, and it's those that I buy.

From the RBN songs ported over, does Harmonix gather data as to what's more popular on the PS3 as they do on the 360?

I'm actually curious as to what the highest selling DLC song is too!

What are the chances of getting "Fragments" by an Unkindness on the PS3?

Yup. Sometimes, less of one group (folks looking for metal) is still more than all of another group (folks looking for non-metal).

I personally have no problem with 2-3 metal songs a week from RBN, as long as we get a few non-metal songs.

This will be left as an exercise to the student.
