There's plenty of existing songs he can download even if dlc stopped tomorrow. It'll be fine.
...but eventually you'll want new, right?

I just listed that as a reason some would avoid rockband at this point in the game. I never made any assumptions about what your friend would do, frankly I don't care either, I was just stating what I thought.

I also stated that I'd keep playing RB 3 until the tech fails. Don't forget that.

The biggest issue may not be only related to internal development. I ask in total seriousness, how many of you still see any Guitar Hero/Rock Band peripherals on shelves? Looking to replace your drums or guitar? You may find a few retail outlets carrying 1 or 2 dusty old remains of Warriors of Rock, but i have not seen anything related to Rock Band in 2 years, even used you couldn't locate a Rock Band 3. The only Warriors of Rock bundles i've seen recently were on the PS3, while i do everything music-rhythm related on the 360.

EDIT: Not only that, but i am not sure how many people would jump to next gen for these games seeing that a number of us have vast RB libraries that wouldn't work with this new console... you know "no backwards compatibility" thing

Well, DLC can be forward compatible depending on how newer software versions are programmed (Ref: PS3 Singstar reading PS2 discs for songs) and since RB DLC are mostly digital items, then they might only need to be repackaged to a newer digital store format for DRM purposes. The biggest issue is if existing purchase licenses can be transferred to the new console hardware.

Do I necessarily expect an RB4 disc based game? Nope. Do I think that MadCatz could make an adapter puck, and that Harmonix might do an RB3.5 as an XBLA/PSN title? Not out of the question
My first feelings about 360 controller compatibility were the same as Yours, but then I realised that I forgot about one thing which already exists. Shazam!

So it's only a matter of good will of microsoft to make it compatible with 720, since it's USB - and that means universal.

No, it can mean a lot of things.

For instance that they outsourced the port to someone else like Green Day

It doesn't even need that. Xbox Live accounts remain the same. Just as you don't need I re save word documents, or get new digital copies for a new iPhone

Speculate all you want about NDA's and backwards compatibility, but the real thing going against Rock Band 4 is that Harmonix flat-out said they're not making it.
