Guitar Hero on the other hand, won't have as big a problem with this. Especially when you consider Activistion's strategy of not exporting songs to the next iteration. I wouldn't be surprised if GH appeared on the next gen machines at least 1 year befor RB.

However, both GH and RB have a problem with instruments. The both houses need to work together this time to make sure that all instruments are compatible with all games. Also, the quality of the controllers need to be better.
Chances are, the future of rhythm games will only be partially what they are now. It is almost impractical to make a whole new set of plastic controllers for the next generation of rhythm games. Chances are that most people who would want to play the new game already have a musical instrument at home. The logical approach would be to just sell an adapter (like the one used by Rock Smith) to use your own keyboards/drum kits/Guitars/Bass/Mics in game.

Yes ,this will take out the main group of people that use it as a party game, but this is not hurting Rock Smith any, plus the fact that is would be incredibly cheaper selling a cord with technology already invented compared to making up and dishing out a whole new batch of controllers.

Ya why on earth would they want you sitting around with your brand new PS4/Xbox720 playing games you already paid for. Thats not gonna make them more money.

Wait til they announce that the only way your gonnna play new games is by purchasing them and downloading them. no more discs, no more used games or borrowing your buddies to see if you like it first and no more rentals

That commercial for gamefly is going to become reality for sure

Things are what they are. There's little sense in griping about it.

Even if the only way to keep playing Rock Band is to start over and buy everything agian (while still retaining my legacy XBOX 360 and enjoying what I have already) then so be it.

I'm far from wealthy, but I'm willing to bite the bullet if it ever gets near my teeth.

These past few weeks of thinking about life with no Rock Band future has made me realize that I'm willing to pretty much pay what it takes to keep the good times rolling.

Well that won't be for this upcoming generation on the PS4 as they have a 6x Blu-Ray drive confirmed in the spec sheet that Sony released shortly after the presentation on Wednesday. For the Next-Box, who knows as they haven't announced anything yet.

The next box has Blue Ray as well and its not confirmed yet but speculation is that the game disc will be no longer and it seems to make alot of sense for these companies to move this direction. Why not take the money out of game-stops pockets and put it in theres if it is technologically capable of doing so.

Game-Stop has already addressed this with the manufacturers and told them it will basically put them out of business. Used game sales are over 50% of there total revenue, with no new game sales either they'll be done. They cannot make it on peripheral sales alone

Hard to say now but we shall see soon enough

With all the real info out now I don't know why people are holding on to paranoid speculation that existed pre-info.

It was confirmed that the PS4 wont block the use of used games.

there are still a lot of people who play games offline. there are still a lot of people who live in rural areas or places where broadband is not available or affordable, who will not be able stream games and don't want to wait for the better part of a week for a new game to download. i think discs will be around a little while longer for these people.

    1) Sony announced no backwards compatibility

    2) Sony announced anything you buy on PS3's PSN will NOT be accessible on PS4

There is absolutely no reason to have Rock Band jump the gun on the console without a plan, and it would be illogical to even formulate one without taking the new xbox and steam box into consideration.
I never thought a game would be able to inspire the formation of a real band or strengthen friendships. Thank you Harmonix, for making Rock Band.

'Technology' is one of the reasons why we have fewer jobs, especially for younger folks. DL over disc has killed 1000s of jobs already, Think back 10 years ago when every mall had 2 'record' stores. A big city would have 15-20 music stores employing 20 or so each. How many people are working at iTunes now? And the manufacturing jobs at the disc pressing and CD player factories are gone too. If only WiiU has discs, Gamestop would have to go down soon, killing more jobs for teens/20s kids. New tech is a double edged sword that makes life easier only IF you have job...
