I'm doing well! I got a bike, and it's Autumn in the South, which is more beautiful and wonderful than I would have thought, and I already thought very good things. My first midterms all went well (last one for awhile is a week from today in my History of Jazz class). 2013 has been a great year. I'm very excited to dig my teeth into the latest thing on my radar, the new Lambkin/Lescalleet release, but I feel I should listen to it as a capstone to a relisten of the first two in the (now official, though apparently always planned) trilogy. Have to say, though, the following new releases disappointed me thoroughly:
David Bowie: The Next Day
Miley Cyrus: Bangerz (genuinely excited by singles that this might be the breakthrough pop release of the year)
The Flaming Lips: The Terror
Janelle Monae: The Electric Lady
My Bloody Valentine: m b v
and I'm anticipating an awful release from Arcade Fire after that garish SNL thing. Still, new Death Grips single was cool, there was a swath of decent to great rap releases (along with Yeezus standing head and shoulders above everything this year and probably for the last decade at least) and it's nice to see Hunx, Matana Roberts, and Colin Stetson still got it.
Going back to just normal life, have to say college has been a fantastic experience all around and I still check in here every day. Hope everyone else is good, and we should figure out a group chat or turntable session soon.
