Heh, the OP says "10 albums to get you started". I may suck at math, but I'm sure that's more than 10.

Probably the best list.

I may alone here, but the original Misfits' last record Earth AD is my favorite Misfits record and one of my favorite hardcore punk records. It's very unlike their other stuff, much more speedy and traditionally hardcore-like, but it's very intense, and catchy cause it's the Misfits

I second both parts of this post.

Those 10 aren't up yet. That's just the heading for the top 10 section that we'll put together later. The large number of albums is under "essentials".
EDIT: OK. List updated with R2R and the Indie/Alternative Masterthread was linked instead of Part 2.
EDIT 2: Any love for Killing Joke (1980) or New Day Rising?

Killing Joke is decent, although I wouldn't consider it a post-punk essential. I guess it's a bit too inaccessible (it may make a good deep cut though)
Also, a 2nd Husker Du album should definitely go up, although I voted for Everything Falls Apart because it shows the hardcore side of Husker Du, rather than just including two similar albums by them up there. I seem to love Everything Falls Apart more than most people, so if anyone thinks that it shouldn't be included then New Day Rising is fine.
3 songs from the album:

Would have to add NOFX to the list.
Going With Punk In Drublic, or their Greatist Hits.
Edit: Say what you will about Rancid, but they deserve some respect.
Going with ....And Out Come The Wolfs, or Let's Go for Rancid
Also on the subject AFI very interesting little bundle of nerves I could hit with them but I do think their early work is worthy of being in the punk appreciation thread

I agree with you on this. ...And Out Come The Wolves is a great album.
Also, I don't believe I saw Damned Damned Damned by The Damned mentioned yet.

OK. Starting the 10 albums to get you started. Any suggestions?
I'd say The Clash (U.S.), Ramones, Never Mind... have to be on there, since those three are probably the most well-known and accessible, and from there, I'll have to sit down and look for a bit, but I think Singles Going Steady should be on the 10 to get you started list.
Also, starting to separate into genres. If you see anything wrong, tell me, as I usually fail at genres.
EDIT: Please check the OP.
