I had a couple of mistakes from when I was a kid....when Paul McCartney released The Frog Chorus and Ringo Starr was narrating Thomas The Tank Engine my dad told me that each one of them was a member of The Beatles, I then watched Yellow Submarine and the Beatles up until I was 12 thought they were a kiddies band.

The other one...oh dear lord...my dad had/still has I presume all the albums on vinyl and I used to listen to them constantly when I was 15-16 (I got them on CD when I was 17...) and I had no clue who Richard Starkey was...it was only through reading numerous Beatle books that I found out that he was Ringo.

When I was very very young, say about 8-10 years old, I knew my parents liked the Beatles, and they weren't their favorite band (my parents were more keen to Zeppelin), but they enjoyed em enough to listen to them often. I knew who Paul McCartney was but didn't know he was a Beatle, same with George Harrison, though I didn't hold him in as high regard as McCartney at that age. I had always thought the Beatles only vocalist was John Lennon...I also thought The Beatles were a hippie band and only spaced out hippies listened to. Then this one day my mother, my brother, and I were taking a car ride and "You Never Give Me Your Money" came on. I knew the song, the tune, but didn't know who it was, and I asked my mom who it was and she says "Paul McCartney". Little do I know it's The Beatles. Infact, she did that quite often. I came about learning the Beatles songs for whomever headed each one vocally. It wasn't until I was about 14 or 15 that I really started to pick up on them on my own. My dad would drive my brother and I to school each morning and we'd hear "Breakfast with the Beatles", a daily 3 song Beatles set on the radio, that I really got to know them on my own. At first I thought it was torture-some, and couldn't stand it, besides the more popular songs I had all ready known, but then they just grew on me. Some were nostalgic like I had heard them before (which I had, just never realized they were the Beatles), others that I disliked before began cycling through my head. I was slowly experiencing my own personal Beatlemania. I used to take my dads old records and sit alone and listen to them. I remember how fond I was of certain songs back then. It's funny cuz I don't even listen to half of the Beatles songs I used to listen to back when I first started listening to them. It's like my taste for their music has evolved. Like it started with the popular tracks, and now I'm really tuned into their personal tracks, the b-sides, and the certain stories attached to each tune. It's really crazy because I started taking a liking to their solo work more than their Beatles work. I used to think they fell off after the break up, and now I feel like their best works happened after the split. I experienced my own personal Beatlemania and it's still continued today, 10 years after I first started taking a liking to them. What started off as a guilty pleasure is now an every day thing for me. Nowadays I pick up on every little popular culture reference to them, even the most obscure. It's weird. Their appeal. The magnetism they have. I'm glad I've been privileged to live this close to the days they reigned. I can't imagine what effect they'll have on generations to come.

It's beautifully put together. What a great resource, I'm glad to have stumbled onto it.

Like I said in the "Who got you into The Beatles" topic, it would be not knowing who George Harrison was until very recently. When I heard about his death, it came to me as "Another Beatle died. Not Ringo or Paul, the other guy".

Also probably wish I hadn't read about John Lennon's oedipus complex.

When was 10 up until I was 13, I thought they were brothers. I then became a huge fan when I was 13 and found out that their last names were different.

That reminds me.

Um.

For a very long time, I thought the Beatles had ended because John died.

Erm.

I, up until the other day, didn't know which Beatle was John Lennon and which one was George Harrison.

I thought of two more embarrasing things:

1. I didnt get into the Beatles until i was 16, this year, but not cause of TB:RB but because the entire discography was on my older brothers computer and i gave em a shot because i always heard they were so good. And i fell in love with their music.

2. This kinda relates to the first one. When i was like 12 or 13 i was playing Trivial pursuit in my english class and the question was "what was the last album recorded by the beatles" and nobody knew and i threw out "abbey road" cause thats the only album ive ever heard of. And it was right (which i obviously know now) but had no clue about before. The reason i knew the name abbey road was because of the episode of "Drake and Josh" where Drake gets an autographed copy of Abbey Road lol.

I really wish I didn't go on wikipedia to look up what that meant... *shiver*
