i'm familiar with the nashvillesdead.com site, but didn't really realize it counted as a scene.

is there a list of which bands qualify or anything, since it's mostly just punk/lo-fi bands that are touring the area?

Well, I'm not sure it's really a scene, but just reccomendations for good Nashville punk/lo-fi like Pujol or Funstix.

the finest bands along those lines in nashville/memphis (more folk than punk, but i don't think you'll mind that, schmeank)...

the cherry blossoms
dave cloud & the gospel of power
caitlin rose
magic kids
creech holler

i personally despise a lot of those bands (jeff, the mattoid, be your own pet, etc.), but there's lots of good stuff to be found.

@afterstasis: just downloaded a Jandek torrent with 24 of this albums (what!?), which ones should I begin with first. preferably less 'creepy' and more accessible.

anyhow, "chair beside a window" is definitely the best place to start, followed by "six and six".
