Avulsed - Eminence in Putrescence (death metal)
    Haemorrhage - Anatomical Inferno (grindcore)
Asgaroth - Red Shift (black metal)

These bands are from Spain, with Asgaroth being my favorite of the three. Haemorrage sounds A LOT like Carcass, but they still sound good, so I don't mind.

Going on an album run tomorrow. Give me 2 or 3 newer albums that are really good, worth purchasing with real money. Non-metal, preferably.

    Doom:

    Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath
    Candlemass - Epicus Doomicus Metallicus
Katatonia - Dance of December Souls
    Patadise Lost - Gothic
    Anethema - The Silent Enigma
    Sleep - Jerusalem

I don't really like any first wave black metal, so I don't know if these are good places to start, but my favorite black metal albums are:

Agalloch - Pale Folklore/The Mantle/Ashes Against the Grain
    Enslaved - Below the Lights/Ruun/Vertebrae
Wolves in the Throne Room - Two Hunters/ Malevolent Gain/Black Cascade
    Algaion - Exthros
    Dark Fortress - Ylem

If you like folk (like a more interesting Bob Dylan,) The Tallest Man On Earth's The Wild Hunt. Also, The National's High Violet, though if you haven't heard other works by The National, don't start with it.
