brand new's first album is much closer to "true emo" than TDAGARIM

Brand New is Post-Hardcore - if I remember correctly -, which can be very close to Emo.

There isn't anything post-hardcore about Brand New (another genre/movement that people destroyed). CCR is right, they are mediocre and quite overhyped and I don't have to be from New York to understand that.

Welp, I'm starting off TDAG right now, so we'll see. So far these first 2 songs are pretty cool. It's not sound sounding punky, just more alternative rock with some punk influence, perhaps. We'll see as it progresses. I'm honestly only checking it out because it pops up around /mu/ and RYM, and I like the cover art.

Either way, to each their own, y'know?

Austra is good but I dislike the vocals, they lack punch.
My friend had a big thing for iamamiwhoami a while ago, he's into anything that's swedish. I like it but that's not what I'm into right now.

Cocorosie is amazing, but a little repetitive, I have grown tired of their sound for the moment.
Planningtorock is great. I had only heard her collaboration with The Knife in Tomorrow in a Year. I'm glad I took a moment to give her a listen.
I have never really gotten into Rufus Wainwright, not any further than his song "Martha".
I love Andrew Bird but never really listened to Weather Systems before now. I can't say I like it as much as Noble Beast.
I had heard few of My Brightest Diamond before and i find that she is very hit & miss for me. Some songs I love, some ... I don't.

    Thank you very much!
    You're welcome!

I'm glad you like Salem and most of the others. I don't have much experience with witch house, other than them, but last.fm probably has some other recs for bands in the movement.

Also, agreed on My Brightest Diamond. Sometimes Shara's sound can be a little unfocused.

    Good list. I'd also add:

Antisect - "In Darkness There Is No Choice"
Gallhammer - "Ill Innocence" (gimmicky, but it's still worth a listen)
    Warfare - "Mayhem ****ing Mayhem"
