I would add Bonobo's organic approach

I've been rather occupied with some stuff and as result I really haven't kept up with the music the past two years. Should I just look back through the music discussion threads or is there albums that come to mind that I have to listen to?

If you haven't already, you should definitely check out the albums from Giles Corey, Ash Borer, Iceage, Cold Cave, Thurston Moore, and Raein last year. Those were all top-notch releases.

What stuff do you normally listen to?

Second Ash Borer, but throw on Wolves in the Throne Room's Celestial Lineage, and Blut Aus Nord's 777 Sect(s) and 777: The Desanctification, at least as far as black metal goes.

Yeah, that Wolves in the Throne Room album was really good, too. I didn't get around to the Blut Aus Nord, so I should probably check those out at some point.

I will keep those in mind ccr.

ULS_980:To be honest I will listen to anything for the most part, I'm not particularly fond of scene music(not that almost anyone here is) but it doesn't matter, dream pop, death metal, power violence, noise, bring it on I will listen to it.

Alrighty then, here are some of the albums from the past two years I'd recommend (mostly from 2011, artist-album (genre)):

Ash Borer - Ash Borer (Atmospheric/Ambient Black Metal)
Bon Iver - Bon Iver, Bon Iver (Indie Folk)
Wolves in the Throne Room - Celestial Lineage (Atmospheric/Ambient Black Metal)
Skeletonwitch - Forever Abomination (Blackened Thrash Metal)
Ulcerate - The Destroyers of All (Technical Death Metal)
Vektor - Outer Isolations (Progressive Thrash Metal)
Tombs - Path of Totality (Post/Sludge Metal)
    Blut Aus Nord - 777 - Sect(s) (Industrial/Black Metal)
    Talkdemonic - Ruins (Electronic/Post Rock)
Oneohtrix Point Never - Replica (Avant Garde Electronic)
    Feist - Metals (Indie Rock)
Deathspell Omega - Paracletus (Progressive Black Metal)
Kylesa - Spiral Shadow (Sludge Metal)
Chelsea Wolfe - Apokalypsis (Doom/Folk Rock)
*shels - Plains of the Purple Buffalo (Post Rock)
Youth Lagoon - The Year of Hibernation (Indie Rock)
Ghost - Opus Eponymous (Heavy Metal)

Long list, but these past couple years have been great, especially for metal IMO.

Avoid the Iver, listen to Orchid's Capricorn, Ice Dragon's The Sorrowful Sun, Glitter Wizard's Solar Hits or Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats' Blood Lust.

Hum, I'd like to add a couple of artists/bands although everyone has been adding a lot cause I also take pleasure in reading those lists and writing some notes down.

The Weeknd - House of Balloons (R&B, electro)
Nicolas Jaar - Space is Only Noise (minimalist, chill, electro)
Girls - Father, Son, Holy Ghost (rock-pop, lo-fi)
Gorillaz - Plastic Beach (electro, hip-hop)
Neon Indian - Psychic Chasms (chillwave)
Janelle Monae - The ArchAndroid (R&B, Soul)
    Mount Kimbie - Crooks & Lovers (post-dubstep)
Perfume Genius - Put your Back N2 it (chamber pop, singer-songwriter)
Bill Callahan - Sometimes I wish we were an eagle (alt-country)
    Death Grips - Exmilitary (hip-hop)
Little Dragon - Machine Dreams (synthpop, electro)
It was like a bird of rarest-spun heaven metal or like silvery wine flowing in a spaceship, gravity all nonsense now.
