    Mekons - Fear & Whiskey (alt-country/post-punk goodness)
Nation of Ulysses - 13 Point Plan to Destroy America

I could go on for hours and hours on these genres (especially jazz) but I'll just give you a few albums that I consider the essential albums from each genre:

    Jazz:
Miles Davis - Kind of Blue (everyone should have this album)
John Coltrane - A Love Supreme (if you don't like this one, try Giant Steps)
    Joe Pass - Joy Spring
    Art Blakey - Indestructible
Thelonious Monk - Monk's Dream (also check out Straight, No Chaser)
    Dave Brubeck - Time Out

And if that stuff's not as accessible for you yet, I'd be happy to recommend you some jazz fusion that you might like more.

For blues, check out my earlier post in this thread:

Muddy Waters - Folk Singer and Sail On
This is pretty standard and essential blues/blues-rock fare. Also, check out Stevie Ray Vaughn's stuff, particularly Texas Flood.

    And for DA FUNK:

    Average White Band - AWB
    Funkadelic - Maggot Brain
    James Brown - Sex Machine
Parliament - Up For the Down Stroke
War - The World Is a Ghetto

Would you pay for music by Beck?
    Maybe.
What if you heard he owned a plane made of gold?
    Sure.
Good, because he needs the money.

I'm not too familiar with Madchester, but I always did like the Charlatans. Check out their debut Some Friendly.

Yeah, my username is thesuperalive. I can't run it right now, but I'll probably be on later tonight.

Edit for reference: I'm pretty sure I have all the albums ripped to my HD, but there might be one or two I haven't. You can probably find them elsewhere though.

Faust IV is very very good, and IMO so are Faust So Far and The Faust Tapes

Well, I'm not really looking for anything new right now, so I let other people (who are looking for more music in that genre) know that I am an expert on one of the bands in that genre.
