I just want to find a band that I can proudly say defined my generation well when I am a jaded 40-year-old (in other words, one that I can "grow up" with).
Definitely look in Year Long Disaster, I think you would enjoy their debut album very much. Also, you may enjoy Graveyard's (Sweden) debut album as well.

Gasp! Another Eric's Trip fan on these forums? I disapprove of your exclusion of Purple Blue and Forever Again though.
It's good to be happy. There's no hope.

Thanks for the recommendation - this album is great! The singer looks kind of like Weird Al. o_0

It's good to know that there are some talented modern bands out there.

No problem, glad to help. Also check out the band I edited into my post, I think you would enjoy them as well.

Heh, I was only joking anyways.

I'm just shocked to see someone besides me (and, of course, afterstasis) who has any knowledge of the lesser known Canadian indie rock bands.

it's depressing, people are like cattle when it comes to music in general...they only know what they are fed and don't venture outside of that which they know.

Very true, even for most "indie rock" fans. Tons of people are more than willing to chat with me about The New Pornographers or The Arcade Fire, but the minute I bring up a band like The Dinner Is Ruined or Malajube I get blank stares and confused looks for the most part.

    Clutch, now.

Blast Tyrant is probably the best place to start.
Despite all my rage, I'm still just Nicolas Cage
