these will do I'm total entry level when it comes to the new screamo stuff

I only used Skramz to see what it felt like, it felt bad

holy sh*t I just wrote out "entry level", I'm morphing more and more into a hipster with each passing day, but my El Pollo Loco job drains the hipster right out of me

Morcheeba is always a good entry level band for trip-hop in my experience.

Like everyone else said, Summerteeth. Then Being There. Then their new one. Then, the rest!

Surprised no one mentioned these essentials.

Digable Planets - Reachin' (A New Refutation of Time and Space) [seriously, get this album now. You won't be disappointed]
A Tribe Called Quest - The Low End Theory
The Roots - Do You Want More?!!!??!
De La Soul - Buhloone Mindstate
Madlib - Shades of Blue (this album has a cool premise. It's made entirely of samples from jazz releases by Blue Note Records with a few voice-overs by famous jazz musicians here and there)
Would you pay for music by Beck?
    Maybe.
What if you heard he owned a plane made of gold?
    Sure.
Good, because he needs the money.

Just in general, or besides the really basic bands/albums?

Either. I mean, I have some really basic knowledge of the genre, but anything you think I should check out would be greatly appreciated.

    Very well then.

    Portishead - Dummy and Third
Massive Attack - Blue Lines and Mezzanine
    Bjork - Homogenic

If you enjoy the two Portishead albums, check out their self-titled one too.

Okay. I have Mezzanine, which is partly what got me to asking, but I'll look into the others.
