-since you like Punk, an Indie band with some Punk styles would be Los Campesinos! check them out as well.

-Indie bands with a more Poppy sound to them~
    The Shins
    The Flaming Lips
    Broken Social Scene
    of Montreal

The New Pornographers (you know them from RB)
    Architecture In Helsinki
    and Death Cab For Cutie

-if you like Prog Rock check out Muse if you already haven't

-and if you like softer metal (oxymoron?) check out Rage Against The Machine

by softer metal i meant, and i shoulve been more clear about this, anything but death metal/black metal.

I've been meaning to check out my Bloody Valentine but keep fogetting to, thanks for reminding me.

Los Campesinos is one ive never heard of, ill be sure to check them out.
    as for the others:
The Shins (never really liked them, ill check em out again and maybe it'll click)
Broken Social Scene (never heard of these guys, will check them out)
Of Montreal (been meaning to check these guys out as well)
The New Pornagraphers and Death Cab are both bands that i listen to and enjoy a few songs from
Architecture in Helsinki (another one i have to look up.
I went through a RATM phase earlier this year, and still like a lot of their songs.

And finally, Muse. These guys are one of my favorite bands actually! im seeing them with U2 in September, mad stoked for that.

Thanks for all your help. ill edit this post with thoughts on the bands after i listen to them.

When the f*ck did they brcome prog.? There is some damn soft metal by the way (Alot of Cowboys From Hell comes to mind)

^ Thrash then. Death Angel, Kreator, Sodom, Annhilator, Overkill, Realm. That should be enough for now.
Cleveland Browns 5-11 (next whenever they start playing again)

Peyton Hillis = The Albino Rhino

Citizen Erased, Knights of Cydonia, and Space Dementia have some pretty proggy tendencies, though I agree that the majority of their songs are not only not prog but are also pretty bad.

Also, I feel like throwing out the obligatory Cat Power and Deerhunter mentions here when it comes to indie as well as Pavement, Sebadoh, etc.
Would you pay for music by Beck?
    Maybe.
What if you heard he owned a plane made of gold?
    Sure.
Good, because he needs the money.

Yeah, Deerhunter is a really cool band. As far as full albums are concerned, I'd recommend you look into Microcastle.

Out of curiosity, what My Bloody Valentine songs did you listen to?

If you don't know how to appreciate the wall of sound of Loveless, I've found this era of MBV to be much more accessible.

Loveless is pretty much their essential album, so I'm not sure what to say if you don't like it besides that you might enjoy their more "indie" stuff from Ecstasy and Wine. Also worth checking out are Ride (Nowhere is their best full-length) and Yo La Tengo (I Can Hear the Heart Beating As One is my personal favorite from them, but I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat Your Ass is excellent as well).

did you listen to deerhunter or the dear hunter?

deerhunter's a modern take on shoegaze and the dear hunter seems to be another mars volta poop-a-like.
