What I finally found worked for me was putting the brain above the pads, and replacing the stereo patch cord for the foot pedal. My foot pedal was causing the drums to stop working completely, especially if I moved it slightly after the song started. So far this seems to work.

Same problem - returned set and will try again

I went into Freestyle mode and unplugged all the pads and cymbals, and it would still trigger those same 3 hits at random times.

I have to give a mention to Zzounds.com here, as they have gone above and beyond the call of duty in offering excellent customer service. I initially called Ion about obtaining a replacement brain. They told me I would have to send the module to their repair facility in California and wait for them to send me a new one, which would take approximately 10 days. I'm going out of town next week and was planning to take the drums with me for an event, so I contacted Zzounds. They are replacing the entire set and shipping the new set via Next Day Air at no cost to me! Can you imagine how much it must cost to ship a 35lb item Next Day Air?

If you haven't purchased an Ion yet and are considering it, I would definitely recommend getting it from Zzounds.
Glad to see someone else had the exact same problem. The brain will send the random signals whether the pads are plugged into it or not. I also tried every USB port and the RB1 disc. Same problem. I took it back to the store and they gave me a full refund. In the two days I owned the set, the price dropped $100, so I'm going to replace it once they get them in stock. Let us know if your replacement set still has the same problem.

Take it back to the store and get an exchange or refund. I did. Buy the extended warranty if your store offers it. It's worth it. I got my entire RB2 special edition set refunded after two RB2 wireless drum sets failed. Decided to use refund to by RB2 disc and ION separately.

So far, you are the fourth poster with this problem. I returned my ION's on the second day and got a full refund. Will try another set and continue until I get a controller that works.

    Wonky controller #5?

Question: I’m aware that x360 users lost velocity sensitivity last week due to a rock band patch, (which Harmonix says is only temporary). It also doesn’t seem to work on my new PS set. I need to know if this is a rock band issue, or is there a problem with my new set. So my question is to the PS Ion users… Does the velocity sensitivity currently work? Thanks for your input on this matter.

Comment: Last week I read that a couple people were having weird things happen with their new PS sets. One example was that from the song menu screen, without touching a pad it would back out of that screen. Well, I experienced this too and was able to discover that it was static electricity causing it. Any static electricity discharge occurring within about 3-4 feet of the set would cause this…EVERY TIME! I switched out the chair I was using and that solved my problem. Hope this helps any of you with “weird” acting modules.
There are few people with this problem and doubt it was static electricity. Let us know if this really did fix the problem. I tried grounding the controller with a computer grade anti-static kit, unplugged all pads and detached the controller and let it sit on the floor and my couch and I walked away and it still sent random signals to the PS3. The static electricity theory just doesn't make sense.

I think it is the static thing, myself. I noticed weird stuff would happen whenever I tried brushing the dust off of the drum pads. The static that was created tended to back out of menus or it would say the controller was unplugged. Using a cloth or even your hand to brush the pad would get the same effect for me. (PS3)

I just started experiencing this symptom yesterday for the first time that I can recall. I'm not really sure if it's a static issue or a pedal issue based on what I've seen here, so I've decided to get myself a new drum pedal from RockPedal.com (by all accounts it's better than the Ion pedal) and I'm going to the local office supplies store and get an anti-static chair mat to see if that solves the problem as well. I bought a Peak guitar two weeks ago and that thing is amazing. I might as well round out the arsenal with a serious pedal!

I took mine back. For the cost there were just too many issue:
    > game would randomly cut out to "quit game"
    > game would randomly cut out to main menu
    > unresponsive cymbals
    > unregistered hits
    > loose rubber thing hanging off the inside of kick pedal
    > customer service did not answer my queries
    > different sensitivities across each of the drum pads
Add in the difficulty of adjusting to the different set up and I was not having much fun. I was about to put it into dust gathering mode and figured I'd just take it back and wait ahile until the fix the quality isues or a better set up comes along.

My work great, its just the controller part of it (or the module) is messing up. Its hitting notes when im not? (does that make sense?) like you know how the buttons correspond to the pads? (like O is the red pad, X is the green pad etc.) well in a song, it does that quite a lot and its pissing me off. Anyone know how to fix it?

I dont have IONS but I am 99% sure its just a matter of time before you get used to the layout/spacing of drums.

When I watched a review of the ions the only thing said about bad sensitivity was not the pads was just the cymbals that were not as sensitive as he would have liked.

Id say ring up the makers of the ions and ask them are they frequent problems
