Ok, so I hear that the stock cymbals on the these suck. I just bought these today, and the cymbals seem way to unresponsive. What can I tweak on my end before I lug these all the way back to Best Buy? I'm not getting any missed/extra notes on the pads, its just the cymbals.

EDIT: Not only do I have to hit them hard...but even then they don't register as fast as the pads do.

EDIT 2: Also I noticed that on the RB2 kits I could tap the pads fairly softly and still register hits. I can't hit the Ions as soft and still register a hit, is this normal?

No, none of that is normal. Since you're having sensitivity problems across all your trigger inputs, it sounds like the controller module in your kit is faulty. You should contact Ion immediately about getting a replacement.

So, should my pads be as sensitive or more sensitive then the RB 2 kit? I have the official drum silencers on the RB 2 kit and it still registers light fingernail taps on them. Also if I bought my kit from Best Buy less then 30 days ago do I still need to go through the Ion website to exchange the defective controller module? Can't I just take the defective drums back to them?

Yes, they should be just as sensitive as what you described. Sure, you can take it back to Best Buy, but that would mean packing the entire thing back up and taking it ALL back. Nothing wrong with that at all, just involves more effort on your part. By going through Ion, you only need to send back the controller module.

Awesome! The customer service guy at Best Buy is willing to swap out the drum module with one they have in stock there. Apparently it depends on who's working there though. Some people want all of the original parts from the previous purchase. Just a heads up for any other people with this problem. I'm glad i don't have to take this all apart again; much less put it back together.

I was failing songs like "Say it aint so" for crying out loud.
There is no way on earth the GH drumset resembles the real thing more than the ION...ESPECIALLY SINCE YOU CAN SET IT UP THE WAY YOU WANT...

Ok, now I'm confused. The pads/cymbals are just as sensitive as with my original module, meaning light taps don't register still. Maybe Best Buy's Ions are all so old they have the original modules still? I uploaded some videos to Youtube to show how sensitive they are:

    Your problem seems common.
Uusually instead of focusing on TV so much, focus on the bottom of your eyes, where the IONS are. That might help.

If your looking to really get into this then:
Inbetween put a wooden sheet over the blanks where your arent their. thatll show you were your gaps are at without even paying attention to much to your IONS.

I've had my Ions since December. I watched your sensitivity videos and I think your cymbals and pads respond about how mine do. Do you actually play using "light taps"? I sure can't...I get way more into it than that. I love my Ions, and my RockPedal, and my Pintech cymbal (much better than the Ion cymbals).

I was mostly referring to how lightly I could hit the RB2 kit and get a response from the game. It seems strange to have to hit a more expensive piece of equipment harder to get the effect of hitting a cheaper(but still work great) piece of equipment, with silencers on them. Maybe, like the others on here I just need to get used to the new feel of them.
