Most people hate it because they feel it was DT's failed attempt at becoming mainstream. Other people say that it's not heavy enough compared to their previous records. All naysayers and it is definitely the most underappreciated album in DT's catalog of albums.

The unbelievable amount of symbolism layered into it as well as the overall message of the album continually blows me away.
Pretty much this. If not Octavarium though, I would say Images and Words or Awake, for Metropolis Part 1 and Caught in a Web/Space Dye Vest respectively

People did, I think 90% of the players knew Dream Theater from the game, I'm sorry but it's the sad reality . For me their best album goes for Images and Words, and Metropolis pt. 2

It pains me that Six Degrees and ToT have less votes than Systematic Chaos, which is one of their worst imo. Probably just because of Constant Motion, though.

Yes, indeed most likely because of Constant Motion and that also explains why Octavarium has so many votes because of Panic Attack.

Which, coincidentally for me, Octavarium is right down there with Systematic Chaos as one of their worst.

I like almost everything on Octavarium except Answer Lies Within and I Walk Beside You. It's not a bad album, but it is definitely not their best. Every album before it is better imo, except maybe When Dream and Day Unite.

I love Falling into Infinity, but the Demos are 1000X better.

I first heard of DT through Rock Band and I now(as of about an hour ago) own their entire discography. Panic Attack is one of my least favorite songs by them. The rest of the album is great.
